What is this?

I found this among some old files from a defunct campaign project I was involved in during the VBB days (just the model file, called xinstallx.pof):



It looks pretty cool and I have used it in one of my missions, but I was wondering who made it and if it's possible to (easily) remove those four turret bank submodels on the sides. Those are causing some problems with gameplay, but I don't know a thing about modeling unfortunately. :p

If you have TS boot it up and open trueview. Then find the subobjects in the list and manually delete them. Depending on the setup it , there's a good chance it should be simple.

If you want me to try post pof and I'll give it a go. (no garuntee after that it will work though ;) )

I'm not sure. It was from some campaign called Dark Alliance (long since dead), but I don't remember anything more about it. :p

I actually found a way to remove those things by making them subsystems and setting them to zero strength in the mission itself, but the AI seems to behave strangely if it happens to get near the spaces where they normally are.

Dark Alliance, huh?  Can't say I ever heard of that one.  Might be on the HLP archives page, if I can ever find the thing again.  In any case, you got anything else from that campaign?  Remember, I collect models, no matter how ugly, fugly, crappy, or  ****** (or whatever other adjective you can attach to them) they are.

Also, VBB?  I've heard that term from time to time.  What was it?  Must've been before I discovered HLP.

It was over five years ago. I can't even remember who the project leader was, although I talked with him several times over IM programs. I think his name started with a u.

The VBB (Volition Bulletin Board) was the official Freespace forum until sometime around early 2002, when it was taken down. I and several others here are refugees from that place. :D

I have 27 models from this project. Most of them probably are not unique, as I have seen several elsewhere (Vesuvius, Diablo, Warlock, Lycaon), but there are a few nice ones in there. I could upload them if you want.

It has no turrets except for the ones on the four things surrounding it, which I can't use. I just put Alastors in various locations around it to make up for that.

the concept is cool, but the lines could use some serious cleaning up, and some un-distorting of textures

I like the control tower, or whatever the thing in the center is, and the underside has an interesting design too. The texturing is very random though and could use a lot of work. Well, I'm not the one who made it. :p
