Someone should set up a page just for correcting all the factual errors in that article.

PC Gamer... what happened to ye?

I think that's a brilliant idea. Goober? They're linking to the SCP site, after all, not to HLP. :)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Re: Freespace Open gets a mention in PC Gamer (UK)
Is that PCG UK? Looks like it.

If so: from what I can tell they've always had a soft-spot for FS2. It was their nr.1 space-sim for years and featured as such in those small boxes near the end of their mag (you know, where they put the 3 best games for a number of genres)
It came from outer space! What? Dunno, but it's going back on the next flight!

Let's not look ungrateful about it though. :) If we make PCG look bad they won't want to advertise us as often. Lets try and make it look like the mistakes were easily made (I can see where they got the wrong idea about bumpmapping for instance cause some of our textures have been designed to look like they were :) ).

On the disks they even include the Derelict campaign.

Do you think they asked permission? :nervous:

Plus, I doubt Agatheron and Kellan would be ones to ***** and whine about their hard work being recognized by a popular PC gaming magazine and possibly adding support for Freespace.

Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.

Well at least Freespace still manages to stay in the gaming magazines.  :D

Re: Freespace Open gets a mention in PC Gamer (UK)
i was the one they asked for permission from. he emailed me via the  Game Warden "contact admin" form. I havent heard back from him in a while though...

i cant post the letter here (he requested it remain private) but he said he would run another article on freespace after the BSG TC's completion. They want to include it on their demo disk.

god knows he diddnt show me the article before it was published (or i would have corrected its mistakes) but at this point i think we should take all the publicity we can get

Ahh, ok, well you did fine, bro, but would it be too much to ask if you could email him and gently suggest he run the article by you in the future for factual accuracy checking?
