tbm's are now, by the largest margin imaginable, the things I most despise about the SCP.

I can't start a game with the 3.6.8 VP's without recieving several hundred error messages regarding turret angles and other crap, all of it stemming from those files. I'm using Randomtiger's voice recognition build, and it's not working.

I've been trying to play the VA'ed Derelict campaign, using all the files mentioned by BR. No dice. If you have any mercy, guys, save me from this madness!

Please?

I just got through answering this elsewhere.  Table syntax has changed since 3.6.7, so the newest media VPs (3.6.8) don't work with, essentially, any builds from last year.  There's even a warning in the thread where they are released.  (Note to WMC, maybe make that announcement big and hot pink so no-one can miss it).  Either download a new build from the recent builds subforum or revert to the 3.6.7 media VPs.  Any modular tables you've added will need to be changed according to all of those warnings and errors you're getting.

For Derelict SCP, Blassie suggested the voice-recognition build.  Try that first.

In other news, I've managed to get SCP working with the Voice rec build...by holding down "Enter" for 5 or so minutes while the OK button cycles through virtually every error message that can possibly be generated by FSO.

I'd rather not do this every time I want to play, so any ideas?

You may well have two conflicting sets of tbms (one with new, one with old) syntax.  Personal tables maybe, or one of the older media VPs.  Or it could be something else.  What sorts of error messages is it throwing?

It's pretty simple. Use the 3.6.7 VPs.

You're using a build that is too old to use the 3.6.8 VPs.

The only table I have in my data folder is called shiptype.

The errors all talk about turret angles and the like, and they're all coming from the ships.tbm, IIRC.

They are coming from the turret angle fix, yes, but the current set of media VPs works with the Voice Recognition build and contains the new format of those tables.  So it's coming from something else, though where is another question.

The 3.6.8 VPs will work with the valid builds mentioned in the release thread.

If you are getting errors it's because you've done something like leave the 3.6.7 patches in, or have other table files installed, or are not using a correct build.

3.6.7 patches?

I have no other tables installed apart from shiptype.tbm, and I cleared out my data folders prior to installing the 3.7.8 media VP's. I AM using the voice recognition build by RT.

Another issue, btw, that I'm running into in the Derelict campagin is that it crashes or freezes up. Often. VERY often. Almost unplayably often. Since I don't know whether this is because of my SCP problem, or an issue inherent in the campaign, I thought it best to mention here.

There were three or four patches released after the 3.6.7 VPs but before the 3.6.8 betas.  They have names like "mv_amodelspatch.vp", "mv_100patch.vp", mv_0100patch.vp", etc.  If you've got any of those in your main directory then that could be a problem.  Also, if you happen to have a mod directory called "media_vp" that contains an older set of media VPs, the mod.ini file for derelict will add those as a secondary mod and they will override anything in your base FS2 directory.  I haven't had any problems with Derelict under the voice recognition build so far (other than the missing textures issues that seem to accompany the higher-end shockwave effects) so I don't think any problems you're experiencing are inherent to the campaign.

I'm not sure this is really the place to mention this, but I don't have an account for Mantis (I'll try to set one up tonight) so I can't search for it there yet.  I've been using the same voice-recognition build as Jet and the 3.6.8 mediaVP's.  I too am playing the new SCP version of Derelict.  Everything is working just fine for me except when I try turning on the "Compress non-compressed images" option under gameplay.  Then I can still "play" and get no error messages, but none of the ships actually show up unless I'm flying right next to them, or in some cases only a fraction of the ship is visible.

I can live without turning that option on.  I was just trying to up my FPS a bit.  My graphics card was huffing and puffing trying to keep up with the first mission in Altair.  If this is something no one else has noticed, I'll mantis it tonight assuming I can get an account sorted out.  My email's been a bit flaky of late.

That feature's been off-and-on as to whether it works with older cards/drivers of late.  The CVS tree that the voice recognition build is based on isn't exactly the most current, so there may be lingering issues with it.

Ok, found the time to post the Error message:

The very first:

Error: mv_turretangle-shp.tbm (line 5:
Error: Required token = [#End], [$Subsystem:] or [$Name], found [$animation=triggered].

File:C:\DEV\PROJECTS\Freespace\fs2o\fs2_open\fs2_open\code\Parse\PARSELO.CPP
Line: 606
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable\

*Yadda yadda Callstack info yadda yadda*

And then I get about a thousand more that are nearly identical, only they change from line 5 to 6, 7 and so one, and swap out [$animation=triggered] with [$type="initial"] or [+relative_angle: ##]

In my FS folder, I have the avi versions of the Cutscenes, FreeSpace2.exe, FS2.exe, FRED2.exe, fs2_open_r.exe (VR build), UpdateLauncher.exe, fs2uninst.dll, patchw32.dll, launcher.ini, Uninst.isu, flags.lch, ls_neb.vp, mv_adveffects.vp, mv_core.vp, mv_effects.vp, mv_models.vp, mv_textures.vp, and the standard FS vps. I'm using the voice recog build, and have launcher v. 5.2. Sub folders include Babylon5, Derelict, FS1, STL, Sync, Transcend, and data.

In the data folder, I have only cmdline_fso.cfg, multi.cfg, and multi.log. Music folder is empty. Models folder has f_shockwave.pof and shockwave.pof. Missions folder is empty. Tables folder is empty. Voice folder is empty. Effects folder is empty.

That's everything relevant I can find. I'm going to try to redownload the 3.6.8 Medai VP's, and see if that works.

It might seem trivial, but start with mv_core.  That's the one that's got the problem table.

Ok, I'm still getting the Game-freezing-up bug. It's really random, and REALLY irritating. Any idea's why?

Do I need to post the errorlog?

The freezing up issue has made it so that I can't even get past my current mission (4th or 5th runthrough, now).

That's kind of what I figured.  I've used that flag before and it seemed to work fine, but that was many builds ago.  Thanks.

Actually it's not. mv_core has the fixed table. I just downloaded it from the site to double-check, since the .tbm he mentioned does have the 3.6.8 filename. So, likely he has the original beta release...I've forgotten whether I put the = to : fix in before or after that one.

I've no idea what would cause the freezing, tho.

To clarify the Freezing up issue: It seems fairly random. At certain points (usually mid-late mission), the game will freeze up, though the music will continue to play, and it won't start up again. It's possible to cheat my way past it by speeding through the mission with ~K use, though that is rather unfulfilling. Also, if I do that, it seems that the game will just make up for it by freezing up 1-2 minutes into the next mission.
