I bought X3, good visuals and somewhat easy to learn. I'm surprised it ran on my computer.

Re: So, should I buy X3 or not?
It runs ok on mine, I'm using the latest patch, except when asteroids are involved, or you get too close to a capship that the Lod detail goes to full etc.

I played it for about 3 weeks solid, completed the single player, built an empire, watched half of it fly into rocks or stargates and get killed because you can't seem to have combat groups bigger than about 8 ships without that happening, got bored and stopped playing. Pretty pictures can only keep you going for so long, and there just isn't enough variation in the trading engine to keep interest, the actual trade engine itself, with systems loaded with ships, works well, but theres just not enough to do, and the universe is the same size as X-2, which is explained in the story, but doesn't help much. The galaxy is stagnant from the moment you arrive, no new trade goods, nothing ever developed or created, just wysiwyg as far as trading is concerned, a lot more could have been done with it given the power of modern CPU's but, my usual complaint of companies being more concerned with the power of GPU's than CPU's once again rears it's head ;)

Re: So, should I buy X3 or not?
People said X3 doesn't run well with top-of-the-line hardware, so I skipped it - even though the screenshots make me cream my pants.  That, and I'm busy with FS2 and Eve Online, with occasional breaks for Freelancer and IW2, another space game would make me go unsane.  Steep learning curves don't really phase me though, I learned to play IW2 with a keyboard (I enjoy pain, hence my involvement in the SCP).  I'm going to try the demo out, but I think it'll make my computer start smoking, and thats not a good thing.

The only good hardcore-ish band is Stormtroopers of Death.  Mainly because Scott and Charlie from Anthrax were in it.  "**** the Middle East" is the best song on the planet, next to "America, **** Yeah!".  Better yet, it was written in 1985 so these guys can predict the future.  Get them, Children of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Nevermore, and In Flames if you know whats good for you.  And just mentioning Dimmu will bring Nuke in here :)

What the heck does that mean??  Khaak is the alien race..  why is it annoying?

You're kidding me, right? Say it out loud now... Khaak... what does it sound like?

At the very least it means that the developers are quite Freudian.

LOL They are the Kha'ak (Kar-Ark), the apostrophe is very carefully pronounced everytime it's said in X3 but the voice actors kept slipping up in X2 and calling them 'KacK'

Meh, based on the intro of X3 it sounded to me like they were still saying 'Cock.'

Re: So, should I buy X3 or not?
I wonder if they improved the combat system? I played X2 in my friend's PC and it felt more like bump cars then a space fighter shoot out. Dissapointing considering the detail the added onto almost everything. It almost felt like combat was just an afterthought. I hope its better this time.  :blah:

Re: So, should I buy X3 or not?
Combat was, I think, at first the game was designed to be a sort of 'Elite' style game, where trading was most important and Fighting was when you had to survive, it was never X's strong point. Unfortunately, as Ego have had to cater for a larger audience, it's tried to boost up the combat side of it, and it hasn't worked. The fleet controls are good, if a little confusing at first, but the actual 'feel' of flying the ship is wrong, the universe is too small, both on a per-sector and a universal basis. It's not that I don't like the game, but it doesn't feel as free or as open as it was oringinally planned to be in my opinon.

Re: So, should I buy X3 or not?
I just got X3 Yesterday....   Heres what I can say so far:

The learning curve is VERY STEEP!  I couldnt even figure out how to review my brefing over!

Controls are VERY hard to get used to....

You need a SERIOUS Graphics card to run this game...  If you DONT have an X18000 Series or a Geforce 7 series, forget about playing this game..
You may be able to get away with a 6800GT (as from what people have told me), but I can barely run the game in 1024x768 with an X850 Pro...

There is NO Tutorial.... Very bad design on egsofts part right there...

Oh, and it has Starforce Protection on it....  IDK if thats good or bad but w.e.

However, this game does have some good parts to it:

Once you play for a few hours, you can get the hang of it..

The Universe is BIG

Its actually a fun game...  after you learn it...
Voice acting is OK, nothing to write home about...  Even FS1 had better voice acting...

theres my opinion....  In short:  Get it, but expect to wait awhile before you start getting into the game...
Well what do I do now?  Well Jack, you seem to have an act for blowing things up....
