A Movie All FS2 Fans Should See...
I had a little free time and I did some thinking on FS2.  I wondered what it would be like if some movie producer ever got the idea of making FS2 into a movie.  Granted this will probably never happen, but I looked through my old movie library and found something I think is as close (in my opinion) as we would ever get to one.

Title:  Titan A.E.

True, it's an animated movie, but you won't find any sappy song or dance in it.  (They kill that possibility pretty quickly when the Earth gets blown away...Which looks really f***ing cool!)

The part that reminds me most about FS2 is the Drej (the bad guys, who actually look like humanoid blue Shivans, minus the 5th arm) and their fighters (Stingers -- these look suspiciously like Manticores, so much so I think they drew inspiration from them.)

If someone does rent this movie, maybe it could give some inspiration for a new campaign...or at least fodder for a post on it.

Bush (Verb) -- To do stupid things with confidence.

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

Bumper stickers at my college:
"Republicans for Voldemort!"
"Frodo failed.  Bush got the Ring."

Resistance is futile!  (If < 1 ohm...)

This was brought up a long time ago, when the movie first came out, actually.
And anyway, I always thought that the Drej ships looked more like these, from Descent II:

There are certain Shivan resemblances in the fighters, yeah.  Makes it even more of a shame the movie's ****e.

They only kind of resemble Shivan ships. And then, a lot of scifi ships do.

I thought Titan AE was pretty good when I saw it. It's that post-apocalyptic universe that seems to work for me. Felt like a good mix of Firefly and FS2.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

As far as I'm concerned, animation is only good for comedy. Animated movies that take themselves seriously-- especially when they include action-- are just stupid.

Obviously, you've not seen some of the more... exotic forms of animation out there... :nervous:

I'm sorry but I can't take something seriously if I'm looking at drawn people with their contorting expressions and weird motions. Unless they're functioning as caricatures, expressionistic reflections of reality, or some other use that is whimsical, or at least semi-ironic, I just find it silly. I see an unnecessary layer of interpretation that just distracts me from any important aspect of the universe being conveyed.

You can throw a thousand reasons at me as to why a filmmaker would choose animation over live action, and I'm sure some are legitimate; I'm just telling you the end result of that artistic decision when I view the work.

Sort of a skewed view if you ask me, but of course, some things aren't for everyone.

Making generalistic statements like the one above though is sort of hazardous since you're in a heavy minority when it comes to this, and I'd assume inexperienced to boot considering some animated features out there that re-define cinematography these days.

I'll be honest with you Ford; not only do I think you're wrong, but your use of large words has confused me into being unable to respond to your argument.

Congratulations, you've just dismissed all non-photographic depictions of the human form as "stupid".

Re: A Movie All FS2 Fans Should See...
No I haven't; you have used my words out of context instead of taking them as a whole, which makes it appear as though you didn't read what I had to say. And I know that isn't true because no one would do such a discourtesy to someone simply positing an argument.

BlackDove: They redefined animated cinematography, which, of course, I fully respect as a craft. But again, just because great craftsmanship and artistry go into the work's creation doesn't mean that the method resonates with me, or that I can fully understand what other people get out of it.

Anyway, I'm used to having minority opinions.
