Help making new weapons
As the topic says, i am looking for advice on making new capship weapons, i am getting a campaign sorted out, basically set about a year after capella and the GTVA is on the point of colapse. Pirates, co-operations and a renegade adirmal now fight over most of the GTVA systems, anyway the GTVA now lacks the materials to keep producing Beam weapons and maintaining them so i was looking for an alterantive, i was thinking of sumthing like weapons the capships fired in homeworld, sort of like the shells of a WW2 naval vessel. But i am unsure on how to achieve this affect, any advice would be greatfull.

I'd advise taking things like normal plasma gun weapons and adding a trail to them.
actualy, mabye not.

Be aware that large elongated (non-round) laser bitmaps get distorted when viewing from some angles so you might be better off using a single round bitmap effect combined with proper trail

yeah i tried that with the lasers and it just looked weird, wot i was thinking of was a fireball type thing with a smoke trail behind it so maybe some kind of particle spew with a missile trail? but what kind of TBL entry would i need to do for it because i dont want it to be a missile.

Here is wiki entry for weapons.tbl.

You can add both particle spew and trail to normal primaries if you like. For smoke trail i would use both particle spew and 'missile' trail. Remember that pspew also needs weapon flag to function. If you are using a round bitmap for effects it might be best to set the 'laser lenght' very short to avoid certain problems.

Oooooo! Are you familiar with Wing Commander's Plasma Cannon/Missile? That Looks like an artillery piece on fire or made out of energy (to me at least)! If you like that give Tolwyn a yell that you want to use/alter it..

Ooooh that looks damn good, thanks for the tips! i tried to have a go with Particle spews and dunno what i did but go did it look awful, just one long stream of the particle effect eek.

My two ideas would be a fusion mortar on steroids or skinning a missle with a beam or plasma texture to make plasma torpedoes.
