I have come across a number of problems when attempting to run FS2 and FS2 Open v3.6.7. I attempted to play the FS2 campaign in regular FS2 and it says I need teh CD. I think I can solve this problem if I can download images of CDs and burn them. Will someone please provide a link?

When running FS2 Open, I first came across a missing DLL: openal32.dll. That was an easy fix by lepdownloading it from dll-files.com. Now when I run FS2 Open it notifies me of the "VideocardFs2open" registry key, and I had assumed that all the necessary files were in the torrent that I downloaded; that isn't the case. I am missing this registry key. When I run the launcher and attempt to run the game direct or through the launcher, it notifies me of the missing registry key. I am stuck here. Will someone please help me?

FS2 download: Check the sticky at the top of this forum, aptly titled 'Freespace 2 download links'. I believe there's a link there to ISOs as well.

The missing DLL: You need to install OpenAL, not just get the dll. Get it Here.

As for the video card registry key missing, I'm not sure what might be the problem. Perhaps try running the original launcher and set it up through that, then try the FSOpen launcher again? But that's only a guess at a solution, so might well not work.

[Edit] If you don't have the original launcher, it'll be in the ISOs you're looking for anyway.

Small print in the first post here. That's OpenAL which you need to install to use the CVS builds on that thread or the version you apparently have.

As for FS2 retail needing the CDs there are ways around that. Go to my FAQ's download page and grab the HotU crack pack. The FS2.exe in there is cracked to no longer need the CDs.

The registry string thing is cause by trying to run in D3D5 mode IIRC. Change to OpenGL or D3D8 and it should go away.

If the error continues, I've uploaded a .reg file to http://fs2source.warpcore.org/support/videocardfs2open.reg

I've tested it on my machine and it works, I believe a couple others have fixed the problem with it as well. I only recommend the file as a last resort tho, since it modifies the registry and so has the potential of messing up the computer if something goes wrong (ie a bug or the system is unstable).

I've run into one serious drawback with the HotU crack pack. The Myrmidon can't carry guns; what is wrong?

That's odd. Did you only install the fs2.exe?

What happens if you make a new pilot?

I attempted makinga new pilot, and it didn't seem to fix the problem. I have deleted the entire directory and am re-extracting FS2 as well as the latest CVS build, v5 of the Open Launcher, and the HotU crack pack. I hope that doing this will reverse any damage and allow me to use primary weapons.
