Re: FS1 DVD and FS2 GoTY
There were several FS1 versions. The one that I, personally, have, is for Pentium 3 machines only, and it has afterburner trails and planet bitmaps in the background. However, commercial versions didn't have that.

Re: FS1 DVD and FS2 GoTY
From researching the different parts of this forum, I read it was the OEM DVD version that contained the afterburner trails. Raa mentioned planets in the background, but Galemp didn't. Hopefully, the DVD version I bought will contain both of those items.

Just kidding, but maybe I should try to find that version (fat chance).  ;)

Then, sadly, it would't work for you. I tried to run it on my Duron system and it flat out told me "no."

Yup, Raa is correct. That extremely elusive FS1 version only executes on a P3 or Pentium M system. A very strange decision from V, I think. I mean, why go through the trouble of making afterburner trails and planet eye candy and then not releasing it to retail..? Weirdo folks, in my view. In short, if you don't have a P3/PM system, you won't do jack with the DVD.

I just bought an OEM DVD, but alas, no afterburners or planet backgrounds. I guess it's not the P3 one. Is the P3 OEM a CD or DVD? Does anyone know the part number of the OEM disc? I still have a P3.

It is a DVD. No idea the part number.

if you still have the disc, it would be the numbers/letters after P/N (Part/Number) on the face of the disc (hopefully there is a P/N there). the one i got had a P/N of 36L9195.

Copy the effects you want to a new .vp
(Use vpview to extract, and vpmage to make the new .vp)
With a little work you could probably do it.
Also, I'm sure there's a way to hack the P3 detection...

I've been around long enough to know to have thought of that. :doubt:
The executable is what does it, not the vp files. Even Selectah tried. And no one has tried cracking the p3 exe.
