Re: Ultra-Violet Movie...
I think I'll pass on this and go see a movie that doesn't depend on CGI and ****ing hot actors.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.

Perhaps to some...

It looks pretty pointless and silly to me.

I like the old movies, where plot and acting skills were more important than excessive special effects and bullet-time action fight scenes. But maybe that's because I watched the classics as a child.  =/

Most of the old (50s, 60s) movies I've seen are incredibly badly acted, IMO; shockingly hammy.

Re: Ultra-Violet Movie...
You can't compare the bad movies of today with the good movies of the past. In past decades, there were a few good movies and a lot of **** movies, just as there are today. Nobody goes into a movie like Ultraviolet expecting to be wowed by all the deep, provocative issues that it tackles, and the same was true of those ****ty old James Bond movies. The only difference is that the violence is much better-looking now.

Re: Ultra-Violet Movie...
Exactly.

Dam Busters was not an accurate portrayal of the exploits of Barnes Wallace and his team any more than U571 was an accurate portrayal of the capture of the Enigma Cypher.

It's not the movies that have changed, it's our knowledge of the facts.

However, because special effects have got more spectacular, there is a tendency, not so much to rely on them more to tell the story, but to bring them more to the foreground. Clash of the Titans was considered, in it's time, to be one of the greatest SFX movies of all time, yet it just about equals Pirates of the Caribbean for SFX contents these days, and PotC is, in my opinion, a far better film.

What has changed is not so much the content of the movies, as the promotion of them. Films cost a lot more to make these days, so there is a lot more emphasis on making a profit.

Re: Ultra-Violet Movie...
Yeah, those are good points and I didn't really think of it in that way.
Still I wish that there were more movies like Titanic and Apollo 13.  IMO those were among the best movies ever made, for their stories, the directing, the acting, and special effects were wonderful.  What I was trying to say before was that I dislike how more movies these days tend to overdo SFX and don't give enough for the other areas of filmaking which can be just as important.
And of course there were bad movies in the past.  That's why there's the MST3K series to properly poke fun at them. :D

Re: Ultra-Violet Movie...
Titanic and Apollo 13 are just garbage.

They're overly-long, mindless drivel derived from formulaic concepts based loosely around events that were generally boring to begin with.

I hope you realize that we're dealing with opinions.  You have the right to say that you didn't like them, but that doesn't make them "overly-long, mindless garbage".

Re: Ultra-Violet Movie...
Meh. That movie was pretty crappy.

It was basically one long fight sequence with a bunch of over-acting.

The greatest movie ever made is clearly Bridge of Dragons with Dolph Lundgren.

Oddly enough, if you replace "over" with "under", you've got the last two Matrix movies summed up pretty well.

No, you had the evil genious Colonel Sanders at the end of the second one, remember? :D
