hwo can you sit there and curse bullet time like that!?!?!?!?!  That is THE best part of the game...

FEAR was a forgetable experience. Especially since the multiplayer is crap.

Is it really crappy?  I havent tried the multiplayer demo...

FEAR was overall a solid and polished game and one of the better games I have played recently, but the thing is it didn't really stand out in any way. I certainly liked it a lot, but best FPS ever? Not by a long shot. Although it's definitely worth a replay.

As for the "fear" aspect, I don't get how anyone can find this game scary. The only fear-inducing thing about FEAR was the framerate, although that was really quite the horror experience.

FEAR is one of the best games I've played over the last year. I love the melee component mixed in. I only wish it went longer.

Considering that we had maybe four major FPS games released last year, that's not saying much (and SCCT was waaaay better IMO). 2005 wasn't such a great year for games in general, with very few standout titles. This year looks like it's set to be much better.

splinter cell isn't an FPS tho 
however, call of duty 2 is pretty good, too, has the atmospherics down right, that's for sure.  but, there will be an FPS that's better than FEAR, just when a game hits "the best ever" status with a fan, there's always another game that comes along and raises that bar just a little higher.

F.E.A.R. is a good game, but you don't get much mileage out of it imo.  Once you beat the SP a couple of times, and get tired of MP, there's nothing to do.  No one is making a Single-Player map.  I haven't found one!  It's a blast to play, while it lasts.

Half life 2 was good, but Valve changed the game around too quickly to cover all of the flaws that arose. such as the sloppy storytelling.

there are reports that it is coming to console, however, and a spectrum of sequels/related products, as well.

Not FEAR itself.   They're making a PC sequel and a console sequel though.  The devs have already said something to the effect of "We're not going to water down our games to try to make them multiplatform.",  bringing much joy to the hearts of PC gamers.

As for the game, it's a good game.  It's certainly the best pure FPS I've played in a long long time.  The scare elements were a sad joke, and it's essentially a game about shooting squads of soldiers in office buildings, but the soldiers are pretty smart, and bullet time kicks ass.  But it's not like it's up against a lot of strong competition in the pure FPS category.

FEAR was good. The plotline was good, loved the scary bits even though my FPS was generally crap and such. It was overall a very fun experience - one I really haven't had in a while in most of the other FPS.

I wouldn't call it the best FPS out there, but it certainly is amongst the top contenders.

lack of interest land, mostly. That, and the new forum layout doesn't really appeal to me...meh, just missing something. That, and I couldn't play FS2 cause of it's requirements, and FREDding became too much of a fustration when your missions corrupted at random, so i guess I sort of 'migrated' over to spacebattles.com for the time being, posting only down at the HLP art forum occasionally.

Then I moved back to india, and now im here for the moment...have a new computer that's way better than the old, so hoping to get back into the swing of FREDding and Freespace - this time in full 1284x1024 glory with AA and the full deal.

Half-Life 2 would have been the greatest FPS since Half-Life (the first one)), if it had been like it should have. But thanks to some weirdos it is just butchered FPS with nice physics, and I feel sad about that. AvP (again, the first one) was nice and exiting. It was actually so scary I had trouble getting my self to play it. And when I did play it, it was mostly me running like hell hoping to get to the door, with a hoard of uglies in my ass... (I know, I'm a wuss ) But still, I wouldn't call it the greatest FPS ever.
Actually, I can't really name the greatest one...
I'll have to think about it, while I play SILENT HUNTER III !!!!11!1!?!!!#$%(\@£ [... message too long...]

I really liked the FEAR demo...definately one of my top 10 shooters of all time. I gotta say the best shooters I've played were FEAR, Far Cry, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2004, and a few others...definately NOT Doom 3 or Half Life 2 though.

because it was a MAJOR technological improvement for the time...

I mean you had red faction, doom 2 (i think), half life, and a few other games.... 

Well Doom 2 had the worst graphics, and red faction had kinda sucky AI, so Half Life was the best shooter for the time...
Its sequel isnt good, when compared to other First Person Shooters, and well, some of the AI had problems IIRC in Half Life 2...  I tried playing the demo myself and there just isnt much action to it...  I went through this one corrider with bloody corpses and the nasty looking zomby things just shot out...  And becasue I had no ammo left from the other zombie I took out before, I had to use a frikin crowbar and well, lets just say after that, I uninstalled it and havnet played it since...

As for HL1, Havnt played it yet, so I cant input on that..
