Don't you have some native black people that should be saying that instead?

You know what I find funny?  In this country, using "bloody" is considered more like fake profanity than anything else.  Honestly, a little kid would get in much more trouble for saying the word "damn" than "bloody" any day of the week.  I myself never realized that it's meant to be a "real" curse, something that could actually be censored; it's more of a joke word than anything else here, almost a sort of British stereotype.  And yet here we have a government actually wanting its use censored.  Then again, I also find it funny that certain shows over here mute the "God" but not the "damn" portion of "goddamn." Also, a lot of people over here would probably have a problem with an ad just saying, "Where the hell are you?"; it's not really profanity, but it does come across as somewhat crude.  Ain't cultural differences grand? :p

Ah, I see.
Well "bloody hell" is an often alternative to "holy ****" in Australia. "Bloody" isn't really used all that often except for as an adjective when other 'curse' words would seem over zealous or too rude.
I remember back in the 90's (lol sounds funny) the government used to run an ad on TV "If you drink and drive, your a bloody idiot." Which, I think in turn deteriorated the severeness of the word bloody and idiot because everyone started saying and using it.

Makes you think, if there was no censorship on TV at all, within a decade it would become very hard to shock-insult someone using conventional words. To me, they are just words. I predict the use of the word "****" to diminish eventually too, as all the kids are running around saying it now a days. Words lose their tact and shock impact after a while. I consider them extended fads.

Whether it is for the better or not I can't say. The older folk see it as offensive I think because its attached to bad connotations for them. Back in the day, if you said a curse word out loud, it would often be followed by a vigorous flogging or the cane. Parents these days are very slack compared to the older generations I believe.

Hmm...indeed I don't. :p At any rate, while I don't necessarily want curse words being thrown about all over the place, I really do think that there is some room for more openness.  Case in point: the Adult Swim block on Cartoon Network airs after 11 on a cable network, yet their own internal S&P censors some curse words.  This is especially humorous in certain episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is airing for the first time on the block right now. Without going into details, since I don't want to spoil anyone who hasn't seen it (and no one had better spoil it for me under penalty of death; I still have several episodes to go :p), several of the episodes in the latter half of the series have been very violent intense and have run fully unedited.  Unedited, that is, except for language. There's nothing quite so jarring as hearing a loud "bleep!" in the middle of something like episode 18. :p  It doesn't make any sense in the world to bleep "goddamn" or "bull****" out of something like that, and yet there's seemingly a need to do it.  The same is true for their comedy series, as well.  That's something that I'd like to see loosened up a bit.

The series was excellent, at least, in terms of cool robot fights. The movies were also cool in that respect, but the second one was just so damn zany it made my head hurt...

I'm watching Evangelion for the first time as well (if you spoil anything you will go to hell) and kinda find the censor bleeps to be funny on occasion. Like when a certain someone runs out of ammo and all you hear is 'beeeeep.' Made me chuckle. Still, there are times when the bleeps get in the way, kind of ruin the mood.

Aussie ambassador's FTW! :p ROFLs!

In other news the Australian 'ambassador' has possibly been kidnapped by the British public... :p

Ahh, that's hilarious, but it was the right thing to do. :p :D

The BACC currently lists "bloody" as its 27th ranked most offensive word, behind "crap" and just ahead of "God".

Other words on the BACC's current banned list include bastard (6th), bollocks (8th), bugger (21st), sodding (24th) and Jesus Christ (25th).

LoL behind crap? What's so offensive about crap?
I'm mostly surprised at bullocks though.

Hmmm... does saying 'Bull-crap' make 'Crap' more offensive?

Maybe we should try having more 18 year ambassadors. Might be able to clear up all the worlds problems by next Tuesday :D
