The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
So, I've not seen it yet (stupid slow Usenet uploaders).

And I assumed it was going to be totally awesome, but not quite as awesome as the Gateworld.net poll would seem to suggest:

Quote
Outstanding 12088 96 %
Good 309 2 %
Fair 81 1 %
Poor 20 0 %
Terrible 29 0 %

That's just......That can't be right. Can it?

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
It was alright, I guess.

I'm getting tired of them wantonly killing off earth warships. Also, what the hell happened to the massive fleets that we saw as late as S8 finale?

I'd give it somewhere in between fair and poor. I'm sick of every major problem being solved with a new piece of technology, which half of the time was originally invented by the Ancients.

The best part of the ep was watching the Asguard ship engage the Ori for about 1.5 seconds. At least somebody had the sense to not just sit there.

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
Yeah, I expected at least 10x the amount of ships. Say the whole Asgard fleet, etc. Make Tokara seem small. All of the fighters from the Earth ships swarming around, etc.

It'd make the Orii seem truly unstoppable with the ships under *constant* fire and yet still one by one whittling down the fleet.

is it just me or did this remind everyone of the battle of wolf 359? well sorta anyway. it would have been nice if at least one of the ori ships took some damage.

Eh, they'll all be back. Remember, someone in this episode said the magic word-- "time travel".

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
You'd think they would've had the sense not to go up one-on-one against Ori warships with present technology when that dinky little satelite went Sathanas on the Prometheus' ass.

The Korolev was undoubtedly the 304 to be blown to bits, as Mitchell left in a 302 and death is never a problem to Daniel Jackson. Oh and someone told me that Vala will be a permanent addition to the season 10 crew.

I'm still lost on how many ships actually survived the battle?

I agree with most of this but I think that it was the Odyssey that was blown up and here's why.  We never actually saw Mitchell get off the ship in the 302 when he was running/falling down the corridor and Jackson was on the ship as well, Omah said she wouldn't help him ascend again (not in this ep though.)  As far as the asgaurd ship, yea I'm glad that they had the sense to actually move insted of sit there (did this ship get destroyed? I watched this ep twice but I still couldn't tell.)  I'd hate to see a  asgaurd ship get destroyed so easily like the others.

Unless they jumped out, from what we saw right at the end, there didn't look to be any survivors when the Ori ships stopped firing cause either they were blown away/jumped away.

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
Michael Shanks does the voice of Thor.

The reason he's not in it is because they're trying to show a greater level of interaction between Earth and the Asgard. Plus, as Supreme Commander of the Asgard Fleet and a member of the Asgard High Council (and probably one of the only few to survive the events of Reckoning) Thor's probably busy trying to rebuild their empire.

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
It was decent. The space battle was very pretty, and the music was fantastic (would fit perfectly as battle music, IMO). I was, however, shocked by the home-fleet's incompetence. When you have ships with big boom-boom weaponry that kills you in 1-3 shots (Like a Sathanas, for comparison) it's generally a VERY good idea to NOT stand around taking it.

And is it just me (it isn't, I'm just saying it for the sake of effect), or does the SG crew collectively die (or seem to), like, every second season?

Wait you guys have already seen the season 9 finale? over here where just up top the ep where Vala returns. Not Fair! Are they really on about making a season 10? because as much as i love stargate i do think after seeing S9 that they are kind of running out of ideas, but one thing i would like to see is Anubis come back for one final battle! he was one very good villan

I'm sure if you looked around enough you could find it and see it online if you know what I mean. :D

And yea, they're making season 10 with Vala as a permanent member of SG1.

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
FYI: The Black Knight fight sequence kicked ass - aside from the fact that Mitchell never made a killing blow.

But it was kinda cool to see Jackson doing the sensible thing and just circumventing the rules.

Fansite.....

Spoiler:
It was the Russian ship that was destroyed, as it's mentioned in a later S10 episode; Daniel escapes from it onto an Ori warship

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
I want to know who the 29 people are who watch Stargate and then rate the episodes as terrible so that go round their houses and personally give them a good kicking Jay and Silent Bob style.
I can understand rating it as poor, that's just an opinion on the episode but terrible? What kind of ****ing idiot watches a show they hate? (and you pretty much have to hate Stargate to rate that episode as terrible)

As for the ships not moving it's pretty obvious that someone in the Earth command school has been taking lessons from the Janeway play book. You only need to look at the destruction of the Prometheus to see that one.

Lets see. You've gone to face a weapon built by a culture more primative than you. It turns out to have a massive Ori shield on it that it shouldn't have. But let's not even let the thought that its weapon systems might have been upgraded too bother us. Let it bounce a few shots of the shield first. We only need to respond once shields are down to 40% cause that's how Janeway always did it!

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
The Prom never stood a chance.

The schematics they had showed no shields on the weapon, and it cut through their shields and crippled half the Prom's systems on the first shot. With sublight and hyperspace engines offline, there wasn't anything the Prometheus could do to save itself.

And the Asgard are the only ones who have ships with any degree of agility. 304s and Hataks are okay at dodging things when they're moving at speed, but they can't make any significant evasive actions from rest, and they couldn't just charge towards the Ori ships at full speed c'z they'd've got PWNED by their short-range armourments.

Also, it should be noted that the Lucien Alliance ships came in from the rear, keeping themselves away from the main Ori beam weapons till one of them managed to turn and start blowing the **** outta them.

And the people who give SG1 eps ****ty ratings are usually B5, SW or Richard Dean Anderson fanbois.

Once they had allowed themselves to be shot they had no chance. That doesn't get around the basic stupidity of allowing themselves to get shot in the first place.

They certainly shouldn't have proceeded forwards on the blind assumption that the weapon couldn't harm them after being made aware that it had been upgraded.

Surely someone should have thought that maybe the beam was more powerful than they expected. We know they'll have seen other Sci-fi so one of them must have been thinking that maybe, just maybe the entire thing was a trap.

Still need a good slapping. Like I said if you hate a show stop watching it instead of watching it just so you can complain about it.

Re: The SG1 Finale (spoilers, *****)
They shouldn't have spent the best part of 5 minutes arguing what to do next, either.  That was one of the most bloody stupid sequences I've seen, and thoroughly annoying - right next to using the emergency beamout as a last second escape in 2 episodes in rapid succession.  Very sloppy.
