Emails are attacking me!
Ooookay, I just got this very strange email, which seems to be to be saying "We're going to take over your computer and there's nothing you can do about it, hahahahaha!"  At first I thought it was spam, but then they referenced an email I had sent to the FDL mailing list at the bottom.  Has anyone else gotten this from the FDL?

Yeah right. That is so full of ridiculous pro-american scifi movie 24 x-files bull**** that just blows my mind. No way is that "for real". Ofcourse one way to find out is that you proceed to visit every child-porn bestiality bomb making allah anti-american blow US to smithereens site you can find, and wait if your computer turns into a cyber machine that strangles you during the night.

Re: Emails are attacking me!
I'd be inclined to think so, but that doesn't explain how they got the subject of the email I just sent to FDL.  My name and address I suppose they could have mined from somewhere, but referencing the email makes it seem like some sort of response.

Re: Emails are attacking me! Edited
Hey, emails are like postcards everyone can read them.
The origin is interesting. servetheweb.com is registered as 64.199.142.16. An reverse inquiry gives iceman.servetheweb.com which is home of : Guestpad 3.0 - "Free Guest Book Services - Since 1996 - The World's fastest and easiest Guest Book Service!".
Sounds a like a place from where you can send all kinds of spam.

What is FDL by the way?

Doesn't the FDL (Freespace Developer List?) post emails up, though?  Either that or they have a trojan somewhere picking up emails.

Re: Emails are attacking me!
Either that or a simple script taking the most common words (well FDL is common on that list) and posting. I even got spam send from me to myself ;) or so it looked like.

With all the phishing taking place it would be a wonder if this didn't happen.

And I love this part:

Or did you sign something at servetheweb.com to that end?

They used to, on ml.warpcore.org, but that doesn't seem to be working anymore.

EDIT: Actually, it seems like they have a new archive up (with none of the posts from the old one :():

Re: Emails are attacking me!
Someone on the FDL has a virus (or a really bad sense of humour).

And since you emailed about the archives, you got the reply from whoever that is. I did not see an email like this, or it got spam nuked. I suppose I could send an email to the list and see whta happens.

If you still feel nervous, catch me on IM, though I am travelling to Savannah then San Jose so might be on sporadically. Can probably figure out pretty quickly who on the FDL has the virus or bad humour. Or look at the email headers yourself, probably get the machine name that sent it and some other goodies from it.

Otherwise, complete bull**** ;)

Re: Emails are attacking me!
It was more of a general :wtf: than anything else, though a virus makes sense.  You can't give permission for something you don't know about - it flies in the face of hundreds of years of contract law precedent. ;)

I actually did "reply all" for that email, though, so I sent it to both the FDL and "Ricky", who has a weird-looking address at Juno.com.  So he might be the one with the virus.

It's not like I have credit card information on my computer. All I have is some stuff for school and games. Lots of games. There isn't really much stuff that a hacker could with my computer. And even if he tried, the computer would explode because it's so horrible.
