This would probably be a pain in the ass, but...
would it be possible to make a code that allows beams to pass through parts of capships? like shown in the GOTY version's manual and box, where the moloch shots through the Deimos' hull. And maybe add a LOD that shows a hull breach.

Like i said, this might be a pain in the ass, if the codemonkeys and modellers are willing to do or try it, if it is possible.

Problem with doing it is that the beam will pass through the hull but when it turns off there's the hull, perfectly intact again.

Seems pretty silly till we have working damage decals again and maybe even afterwards.

Cobra, you realize this already happens, right?  Beams pierce a ship completely when the game determines that the beam will destroy the ship (or that the ship will be destroyed in the next 5 seconds or so, it's fairly fudgy).  In fact, the explosion animation should play on each entry/exit point now too.

As for leavinig a hole, well, that's Geomod.

I meant if a corvette fires at one spot on another corvette long enough, or something like that. :p

You'd need an infinite number of damaged models to do it like you're suggesting.

and i'm sure that would **** up the fps and **** pretty badly, not to mention a gigantic use-up of hard drive space. nevermind about that, then. :nervous:
