Starting yesterday, whenever I use WMP for anything (streaming the BBC Worldservice, watching a clip, or even just leaving it open for a little bit), my page file usage shoots up to 900+ MB which makes my computer close to unuseable. This just suddenly started happening. I tried re-installing WMP 9, I tried upgrading to WMP 10, nothing has worked. It just keeps coming back. Short of reformatting my hard drive, what can I do to fix it?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I don't want to sound like a dick here but the beast answer I can give you is simply 'use a better piece of software'. WMP has gotten incrementally ****tier with every new version.

WMP has spazzes like this often...  So many people call me asking me why they suddenly can play certain clips, or why the computer just wont run it or why it just doesnt work like it should...  The ONLY way is reformatting, unless you can cope with something else such as Quicktime, Itunes, RealPlaywe, or possibly MusicMatch....
Well what do I do now?  Well Jack, you seem to have an act for blowing things up....

This is one of those bizzare things. Have you installed any new codecs lately?

No, mostly I just stream the World Service. I think that it only uses Media Player.

And I haven't reformatted this computer in more than a year. My computer in America hasn't been reformatted in several years, yet I have never had this problem before.

Most Windows media filetypes can be played with whichever player you like, as long as you have the right codecs installed.  I personally prefer WinAmp...   Actually, I prefer not using Windows, but I suppose that's neither here nor there.  :)
