Best Damn law ever - Die Telemarketers!

MORE than four million Australian phones will be placed off limits to telemarketing calls after the launch by the federal Government of a national "Do Not Call" Register.

The announcement yesterday by Communications Minister Helen Coonan means "cold calling" homes that have placed themselves on the register will be outlawed from next year. Companies breaking the new laws face fines of up to $220,000 a day.

Hoorah!
They've needed something like this for years. About time is all I can say. :)
I am curious as to what they do with the information they require for someone to be placed on the list though.

Fines?  I was hoping for the horribly horrible sticky death penalty.

What would you prefer? Violators to be executed via drowning in boiling-hot fudge?

Well, now you mention it......

Actually, I think the ideal punishment would be to place them in a 10 foot cell block, in an electric chair, surrounded by phones ob every side with annoying ringtones at earsplitting volumes.  Then, they'd have to make, ooh 50 marketing calls each hour to their fellow telemarketing cellmates, or they'd be electrocuted by the chair (lightly at first, then stronger, until melty time).  Oh, and still answer their calls.
