I am trying to design a mission where an escorted EA vessel encounters first the Centauri, who are friendly, and soon thereafter the Narn, who are friendly with the EA. After the Centauri and narn exchange a few caustic remarks, I would like the Centauri and Narn to attack each other leaving the EA vessel to try to make a break for it and safety. 
 
I've use the change ai-goal for the respective Centauri and Narn vessels in an attempt to get them to attack each other but nothing happens.  Any suggestions, plz.  thx,

You'll likely need to check 'all teams at war' in the mission specs.

change the Narn IFF to Neutral and the Centauri IFF to Hostile (sexp "change-IFF"; AI section)
that let them hit each other (change their ai-goals)... if they should not attack the EA guys set them "protect-ship" (either via sexp or by default) otherwise they will target it directly, too

Thx for your advice.  I kind of like the idea of the Narn going into a blood frenzy and attacking the EA guys. In any case, I was attempting to build in the back story while executing a series of missions.  Thx again !!

no. no and no... thats for MP only...

Sorry but yes. If you simply make the changes you suggest the Centauri will attack the Narn but the Narn will just sit there and take it. The Neutral IFF was designed for the Hammer of Light in Freespace who were hostile to the player but refused to attack the shivans even when attacked by them. The all teams at war option alters this so that all the teams will try to kill each other. It's not a multiplayer only option cause if you think about it the teams in multiplayer are set from the missions specs editor.
