Glad you're alright, at least. Take your time getting back here; real life matters more here as far as we can tell.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

:eek2: Gorram!!  Glad to hear nobody was hurt.  How fast was that guy going when he did this?  I've never seen a car do that much damage to a house before!  I hope you get through the aftermath of this alright, Inquisitor.

Holy ****. Glad you're safe, but damn that's horrible news.

Wait, how did the car even penetrate the walls? When I think of a car and I think of a house, there isn't much question as to which should crumple first.

Well, good thing everyone's OK.

A house is wood. A Car is metal. Travelling at anything over 10 mph it'll do sizable damage to a home. Think about it. Your house is made to withstand wind and solar rays. Thats about it.

All I can do is to echo what's already been said.  Glad you're ok and good luck getting resettled.

Yeah, you've got to admit that the house looks a fair sight better than the nissan (relative costs not considered) as at least it's still (sort of) standing.  But a car is more powerful than any normal wall.  About the only real good to come out of this will be one less drunk driver on the roads without anyone having to get hurt.

Houses in the US tend to be made out of wooden frames, wooden siding, and some insulation tossed in there for good measure. I don't know about elsewhere, but here they're often made out of poured, reinforced concrete. A car wouldn't do much.

All of the houses I know of in the UK are built of pretty sturdy brick & concrete; I can't think offhand of any wooden type constructed ones, at least not that were built on a large scale in urban/suburban areas (rather than, say, in the middle of nowhere).

Unless it's particularly thick concrete (talking on the order of 40cm+ would be my guess), it would need to be reinforced with steel bars running throughout to withstand the impact of a car (obviously the speed of the car makes a difference).

Re: It could be worse, AFK a while...
So about 3am Saturday morning, someone decided to have too much to drink and park their Nissan in my living room.

http://jkohl.smugmug.com/gallery/1368175

Me, wife, ferrets are all fine. The Living Room is totalled.

The upshot? If you were expecting anything from me, it will have to wait till I find a new home. SCP included (not that they need me for much).

You could buy our book if you wanted to make me feel better though ;)

Holy flying nissan batman!
Glad the family is okay. So house is basically a write off?
Or just need a place to stay while they take the 'kinks' out of the wall?

See things like this on the news quite often these days. Nutzors, crazy man, crazy. Hope your coping alright...

That does count , Grug :)

As for the house, it's over 100 years old, so alot of the wood was also very brittle from age.

Re: It could be worse, AFK a while...
Just a quick update:

As you may have seen from the other threads, I did manage to get online  on the new Xbox 360 (yay) and my laptop, but my friends house seems to have occasional problems with the internet connection, and I feel guilt monopolizing his 46 inch TV, so I have not been on but to say hi and see if it works.

We have a temporary apartment in Cambridge (which is kinda a hip place to be, if you are 20somehting, we'll see how 30something works out) rented to us on the cheap by another friend of mine. Internet there is a big question mark.

Looks like the guys insurance will cover everything so now we are in a "hurry up and wait" mode of getting lists and values together.

Anyway, still alive, now a little less homeless, but still not online.

Good to hear the insurance is covered at least, that's usually the biggest worry in cases like this. Oddly enough, I've found getting money out of your own insurance company is like getting blood out of a stone :(

Hope things get sorted out soon :)

hehehe, that was sort of sarcasm, they're happy enough to take money, it's getting it back that is always the problem ;)
