hi everybody


i played freespace 1 loooong ago, and never had the chance to play fs2. I found your FS_Open site trough wikipedia  :) and i immediately downloaded the shivan_SPS 1.4 gb fs2_open torrent file... and began to play. Nothing worked... so i downloaded the newest fs_open version /20060323-redmenace.rar/ configuered the launcher... evrything worked fine   ;) . Now in the second mission i always get this bug when i destroyed all freighters and a criuser warps in:

Error: Can't open model file <cruiser01x.pof>
File:\fs2_open\code\model\modelread.cpp
Line: 1744
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable]

perhaps i am talking weird things now but i don't have a folder called /fs2_open/  in my folder /freespace2/

do i have to download this folder or to extract or is this a command line :confused: :confused:
i dunno anything  :(
pls help me... thanks :)

ou... and the second problem is that when the movies are played, i just hear the sound, but this is not a BIG problem,i can watch them out-game

Why everyone removed the mediavps as a mod? set Mediavps as a mod.

Your problem is that you're using FS2_Open without the media VPs and thus the game runs into the extra table file in the Data folder.

Going into Data\Tables and deleting the Ships.tbl file will solve your immediate problem but at the moment you're only seeing a very small portion of the changes the SCP has made to the game. Try this. Go to the launcher and click on the mod tab. Select the mediavps folder as your chosen mod.

Hopefully that should now run without problems and let you access the hugely improved graphics that the SCP have added.

Mods are something slightly different from features. Features are basically engine specific things like whether or not to turn on the specular lighting etc.

Mods on the other hand are which campaign you want to play. Since some mods use completely different ships etc from the original game the mod system allows you to pick where FS2 looks first when you start the game.
 The advanced graphics live in the mediavps folder so you should tell the game to look there first  if you want to play the main FS2 campaign. Due to an oversight the ships.tbl file I mentioned earlier tells the game to get one of the advanced graphics files but FS2 can't find it since without specifying the mediavps as your folder it only looks in the main Freespace2 and Freespace2\Data folder.
You didn't get it with the FS1 port because the FS1 port contains a redirect (in the mod.ini file) which says look in my folder first, then look in mediavps and only then look in the main folder.
Any other mods included should also have the same redirect.

yeah THAT is something i even know... i didn't know that the community made a mod for the normal freespace 2 campaign, i thought just some features
