Even though this game probably wont work on my computer, I am still looking forward to it (and the day I can get a computer that can play it). I loved the original SiN. It was just sooooooo cool.

What do you guys think about it? Do you think it will be a worthy sequel, or will it flop like DXIW did?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I'm interested in it. I'm actually surprised no one has picked up that series before now. Did you ever play the expansion Wages of SiN?

I need to find a copy of SiN and play through it again. I loved playing it.

I was never able to find Wages of SiN on the net, so I couldn't play it.

The series wasn't picked up because SiN, even though it was an excellent game, didn't sell particularly well. In the rush to beat Half Life to the market, it did have some serious technical problems (not all of them were solved either, like the occational random CTD). I have heard that even on a 500 MHz P3 (the best of the best at the time), the loading times were very long.

SiN did beat Half Life onto the market, but that didn't garentee its success. I have played both games and I think that SiN is more interesting.

I personally didn't play SiN until just a couple of weeks ago. Even then I didn't buy it (because I hate steam and the CD version was impossible to find). I do remember playing it at a friends house all those years ago, but I couldn't play it because my machine was obsolete (166 MHz Pentium, compared with my friends 300 MHz P2).

Oh, yeah. I remember the terrible bugs and the terribly large (for that time) patch that tried to fix them. One thing that still baffles me to this day was the lack of AI code for the first boss.

I remember SiN getting below average reviews, I never ended up playing it. I still checked out this game's homepage, looks like the game will be distributed over Steam. (which is IMO a good thing :D) Anyway, this whole episodic thingy subtly hints that they're going to rip us off. A single episode costs $19.95, there are 9 episodes so you end up paying nearly 180 bucks for a single game if you want to buy all episodes.

Not exactly.

It's all well and good if they want to re-distribute it (I assume you are talking about the original), but steam sucks. Steam was easily the worst thing to happen to HL.

The patch did fix the bugs, except for the occational CTD (which doesn't happen too often anyway). I can't tell if it fixed the loading times because I played it with a 2.4 GHz P4.

Did anyone end up to buying the first episode? I did out of curiosity, it was quite mediocre FPS after all. :)

This game is from 1998, but with the Source engine. Honestly, it's the most regressive FPS I've played in a long time, even more so than Doom 3. This is really not the direction a genre already heavy with stagnation needs to be moving in.

Growth is regressive.
Change is destructive.
Innovation is counter-revolutionary.

These things are non sequiturs when put in the context of SiN.

It's simply a flat, mindless shooter. The only thing remarkable about it is how startlingly mediocre it is.

Does anyone trust reviews (of major games) nowadays?  I certainly don't.

I can't quite tell whether you're being sarcastic or not [my sarcasm detector starts to act up when it hits 2:00am], but I was simply making an ironic commentary on the deplorable state of development within first-person shooters, and indeed the gaming industry as a whole these days, where those statements seem to ring true.

I was under the impression that nobody took reviews from large sites [ie. IGN] seriously anymore, using them only to get a general grasp of gameplay and content rather than any definitive idea of quality.

No, I understand that; I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to bash this game some more. It really is one of the worst FPSes I've played for years. There aren't many games I truly hate, but this is definitely one of them -- in fact, I would go as far as to say this game represents just about everything that is wrong with the gaming industry today.

Okay, I think I'm done.

I'm never going to be able to play this game unless I pirate it (Damn you Steam!), but from what my friend tells me it's the Anti-Sin.

See, Sin1 was buggy as hell, but had lots of story.

This is pretty slick, but apparently has no story.

Actually, I suppose it's a bit like HL1 vs HL2 in that respect as well...

If you want a mindless shooter, it's apparently quite fun 'tho ;)
