Of course they do but the outsourcing does tend to skew the figures somewhat. :)

Typical in any growth industry.  Get some subsidies in and they'll be able to begin exporting again.

Re: Need a Job. Why not Iraq.

I'm willing to bet that China has a higher average mortality rate than Iraq.

Got any proof of that?

http://www.who.int/countries/chn/en/
http://www.who.int/countries/irq/en/

The adult mortality rate in Iraq is 4 times higher for men, and 2 times higher for women than China.

So what did you bet? ;7

Of course that doesn't include the state-run terror/murders/torture.

The state run terror/murder/torture is more frequent in Iraq anyway. At least here we don't have deathsquads roaming around.

They're called 'police' rather than deathsquads, I believe.  Plus all that messy death is postponed for a few years of hard labour/slavery.

Almost all the time the police don't carry guns in this country.

Because unlike US or most European police, you can't give them guns, they'd use them. Because Chinese police are trained in the use of force, not restraint.

Almost all the time the police don't carry guns in this country.

That's because they have a judicial system to sort out arbitrary punishments ("reeducation through labor", for example) or execution.  Far more efficient than rampaging gangs, and you can clean it up more easily.  Iraq is rather more disorganized; China is a big efficient corporation, Iraq is like an open air market.

Furthermore, what about child mortality? Hundreds of babies found dead in the rice paddies can't help that statistic.

I'm not going to defend the Chinese police, but the Iraqi police are just as bad.

Where did you hear that?

Child mortality rates in Iraq are in the 120's, while in China it is in the 30's. So again, it is 4 times higher in Iraq.

I heard that from many people who have been to China on occasion.

I doubt those stats are accurate.

I have heard rumors like this......but from people who I know for certain have never been to China.

So which province did this happen in?

Re: Need a Job. Why not Iraq.
I'd say go to Denmark since we practically have negative unemployment and businesses are more or less begging for more people and will hire you on the spot if you have any skills whatsoever in the appropriate field. Except of course that the government, in it's xenophobic wisdom, has decided that foreign workers are not too terribly welcome, despite the fact that the lack people is starting to hurt our economy.

Sorry for the on-topic post, I'll let you get back to discussing child mortality rates now :p

Yes, Iraq probably has a much higher mortality rate than that........

Seriously, the country has literally almost no hospital infrastructure, and is crucially lacking in basic supplies and medical equipment.  Even aside from the issue of hundreds dying from violence, it's practically a 3rd world infrastructure nowadays.
