Nope, no upgradeability to a PS3, or, if there is, almost certainly without the flexibility that my PC offers. The chances are that, eventually, PC's and Consoles will merge, but the PS3 ain't it.

Okay, so they've admitted several times that the PS3 is in fact a computer, not a console. Wouldn't that mean Sony has already lost the console race, in that they're not putting out a console this gen, but rather a PC?

ps3 is dead, i knew this once we all got ahold of ps3 and 360 hardware specs. the 360 just seems to be the more powerfull machine of the 2. the ps3 architecture will be just too exotic to code for cheaply, and ths games will be way too expensive. if that alone didnt kill it, then marketing will. sony is very good at screwing things up, and i think there about to screw up big time on the ps3.

phasing out the PC is a lofty goal indeed, but a fruitless one to say the least.

And theoretically, I think the PS3 could; it does have an (Linux) OS, after all, it'd just need a market.  Same probably applies to the 360.

Um, the PS3 itself won't supercede the Pc because it's actually more expensive than a base level Pc with a DVd drive, TV-out, etc anyways.  Although that is the endgame for these companies, it seems; the whole Xbox thing is a way for MS to work on getting PC-type devices - windows platforms in effect - into 'the home', after all.

True, but I see it being far more of a blending than a phasing out, really, the only way a console can replace the PC is to become a PC in every way except name. I do not, for example, regardless of performance, see companies buying in banks of PS3's as Servers, or even as Office terminals. It would have to be marketted as a kind of PC to get any look into the Busniess Market whatsoever, since most computers made their way into the home when people started needing them to do work at home, until Consoles can fill that particular niche, they won't replace PC's.

Hehehe, it's possible to post on the board with a phone, but, as an example, why would I want to buy a console for rendering up movies in Lightwave, it's slow, doesn't use any real graphical power, but is incredibly CPU and drive intensive, I'd either have to expect to not use the concole for long periods of time, or buy 2 consoles. I'd rather do what I do now, which is use my cheap server 1700XP as a background Renderer, and I can still play games and do other stuff on the main computer

I got Ghost in the shell-V cool, splinter cell, Worms, EA Boxing game, Megaman Reloaded (kiddy but level editor justifies it) Coded arms, GTA Liberty city stories, and homebrewed Zsnes, so i got 80 snes games as well as Preator, Aliens and Kungfu hussle, thought to be honest i got Aliens on my V635 as well.

Ah, the one and only good use for the PSP (in my reckoning).  Me, I'm bagging a DS Lite on release day, provided Play don't run out of stock.
