Hey guys.  SOrry if this wastes anyones time.  I found this on Gamers Hell and I thought it might be useful.

A freelancer 2 petition was set up on this site.  theres a little over 8000 signatures on there now.  There are of members on HLP taht enjoy freelancer and this may be a chance to get a sequel.

I quite enjoyed Freelancer, though I had a few reservations, many of which were dealt with by Mods. Twas a good game, but I'm not sure where a sequel would go actually. It's kind of like having Oblivion 2, what's the purpose of a sequel to an open ended game?

Anyway, I voted for it, you never know, it might be worth it

It would further degrade the space sim genre, pull more players away from Freespace 2, and offend me by the fact that it DOES NOT USE A JOYSTICK!

The story line did end with a "they're gone, but they aren't beaten" thing, which leaves it wide open to a sequel.

Nope, Digital Anvil.  MS just published the game(s).

I'm tempted to grab Freelancer just for a) not using a joystick (Still think it's a **** idea, but I could play it in work ) and b) the 2 player mode (IIRC)

Actually I've never had much of a problem playing freelancer on a mouse. The game works perfectly well without a joystick.

If I was going to have a go at Freelancer it would be for the ridiculous "The universe is in dire peril but **** off and make some money before we go back to doing anything interesting"

Not to mention the really annoying way that you could do all the resource gathering in one go and then play the campaign straight without having to faff around after every single arc mission.


But all in all I find Freelancer a fun little game that's nice to play once in a while. It's not Freespace but then nothing else is.

Digital Anvil wasn't exactly a company, it was an in house development team, IIRC. If it wasn't then how did M$ manage to close it?

The game was specifically designed so you didn't have to use a joystick, but could still fly effectively. The need for special hardware like joysticks to play it well is one of the reasons the flight sim genre is pretty much dead.

it's actually quite possible to play freelancer with a stylus pen, believe me, i've tried, it's twitchy as all hell, though.
