But could you make it a little farther in time, like make it bigger and add a shockwave.  This one is fine if you don't won't to make another.

Looks pretty cool!   ... My only gripe with it (and also with the Special Edition Star Wars), is the view of the shockwave on edge (as if it was the rings of Saturn).

The original Star Wars was fine with the Death Star blowing up in an expanding ball of gas and debris. But then, because it looks "cool", they had to redo it with those ring-shockwaves everybody likes to use.

Most planetary nebulae look like a ring because we're viewing the thickest part of it, the edge of the sphere.

That's what I like about Freespace: the shockwaves expand in a sphere.

except that when a star collapses the poles are pulled in first which slightly flattens the star and therefore makes the shockwave somewhat thinker around the equator.

I happened to do up this image (hope it works...   ) for my campaign - it's more of a stylealized supernova, but it was done 100% in Photoshop.   If you want you can have the pic w/o the text...
