I am moving to Tennessee next month to an area where dsl and cable are not available. I want to know if there is another way I can get a service without going back to dial up.

As far as I know satillite is the only way to go.

Several cellular providers offer a wireless internet service. Verizon and Sprint for sure and I think Cingular as well. We're thinking of switching to that since we've been using Starband satellite for a while and it sucks.

I'll check and see if I can find some more info on the celluylar wireless service. I don't wanna go with satalite. I hear satalite is good for browsing only and sucks for everything else.

Sattelite sucks, badly.  No online gaming due only to the fact it takes nearly a second for the data to relay from the sattelite to you and vice versa,  and some download sites ping out.  It's not worth the trouble if that's not your only choice.

I always thought Tennesse's infrastructure was much better than Kentucky's.  I guess I stand corrected.

From what I hear the cellular stuff lags quite a bit as well, but at least a rainstorm won't stop the signal as opposed to satellite...
Still, I've managed to play NWN and Guild Wars with the lag and it's annoying but manageable.

I guess I'm going to have to go back to dial up. I don't want to, but it seems like its my only option unless I go with satalite which is just as crappy but more expensive. Goodbye to online gaming and downloading, hello to slow speeds and replacing modems after 3 months because they always fry.

I don't think there is a cellular service in the area I'm moving to. I can't find any info saying it is available.

I did some more looking and a few sites (including the service's own site) say Comcast's service is available in that area. But I don't understand how it is possible if the area does not get cable.

I wouldn't say it sucks. I'm getting seven acres of land for only $54,000.
