New nebula method - Render
Hey all - experimenting with ways to make nebula, what do you all think of this?

I'm interested in the nebula only - the rest was created in a rush to show it off.

Ok, is it just me, or am I just not seeing any nebula in there?

Oh wait, there's some dark blobs near the bottom.  Geez what a murky pic.

You can't see the big red/orange splotch in the background?

Edit Is your monitor set up right? It might not be a bright background but it's sure as hell not that hard to spot on mine... I'll make another small one with brighter colors for you

You mean the glow coming off the Shivan ship?  It just looks like engine glow or something.....

Oh, and I don't run my monitor on levels that give me a suntan after using it for an hour.

Um... yeah - thats because you can't see the pic up top - so I'm using the same technique with brighter colors for a different nebula

So, now that we've got past this current mental challenge - what do you think? better than Glitterato? generally? It's still in testing phase...

About a minute although I have more control over what goes on with this method, and of course I just mean nebulas - not planets

And the nebula in the top picture runs along the right hand side of the render.

Thunder, I see the nebula on the first render, but for all the apparent effort it must have taken, it has the same effect as me taking a spray brush in PSP, setting the size to 145, and blasting it down the side of an image.

The second render there of yours with the brighter colors is definately worth the effort.

Whats the technique?  It looks quite good!

Thanks for the feedback guys (keep it coming!), In actual fact the nebulas don't take that long to do - although if you wanted a more complex pattern then you'd need to spend more time on it. The colors of the gas can be altered by using the light rendering filter in photoshop, whist the nebula themselves are rendered clouds on a transparent layer which are then erased to leave the desired pattern - with a starfield layer on the bottom.

They can be layered (as allways) to build up color, have different shades and so on - in short it's really good if you want to get exactly what you want, and best of all - it's all done in Photoshop!

I'll be experimenting further, but I definitely like this technique.

Cool idea.  One of those that makes you smack yourself and say "why didn't I think of that"

[smacks forhead while muttering something incomprehensible]

can you fly through them using a potatoshop filter?

methinks not.

Use afterburn if you have a fast rig and time on your hands, looks nicer from a distance too.

Me, I can't tell why it's all that different from, or better than, Glitterato.
