That was a very cool set by all accounts, although the newer Metroliner was even better. The 12V trains were only sold in Europe for some reason. The newer 9V trains look more realistic, but the whole 12V system was fairly elaborate and had a lot of stuff (like the automatic crossings and light signals) that was never incorporated into 9V.

I don't recall ever getting trains. I use to make my own trains using town wheels, bricks etc.

Meh...if it doens't have any guns I'm not interested in it..

I got several Lego sets (police station, airport, fireman ship, police ship, soldier&pirate island fort + some small bits) and all I ever build were aircraft carriers, armed speed boats, mecha, more mecha, starfighters and spaceships, attakc choppers...oh, and robots.

I didn't get any until recently either. I still only have the Metroliner and its addon car (10001/10002), which I picked up when they were rereleased in 2001, but seeing the massive train layouts at last year's Brickfest has made me want to get some more.

My current project will have plenty of them. I'm finishing up the front section now, although there is still a long way to go.

Which sets are they?

There was an unopened 8485 CC2 set that sold for a ridiculously low price a few days ago, probably because the seller didn't take Paypal (although I have dealt with such sellers many times and never had any trouble). I would have bid on it but already have one of those and didn't see much point in getting another.

6989 and a small job lot of 6886, 6895 & 6897. 6897 will be a duplicate but I can use the bits for the Snooper,  it looks kinda cool on the Snooper's trailer and I really like the Spy-Trak (6895). There's more MTron (6877 & 6833 - a real nostalgia set for me) on cheap Buy It Nows that I fancy too.

Looks like my End-All Technic truck is on the back burner untill I get the Space Bug outta me (so to speak) :D
Fancy making it in LDraw but I'll need to visit someone with b/band.

Plus I've started getting BSG DVDs and bits for my car.

edit: woohoo! £25 totalfor the above (about $50 total, give or take). Always wanted the MegaCore Mangnetizer.

I got the front section of my BT2 carrier more or less done. It has pneumatic doors and a lot of angled, non-standard construction. I doubt I'll have the entire thing done before the end of the year, but want to get the main section finished before I move.

I did the same thing with my 6897 and 6957, when I still had the latter built. The 6897 looks much better than the weird stock ship that comes on the 6957.

The 6895 Spy-Trak I has a cool steering system, but I don't like how the driver's cab is open on the bottom. This is easy to fix, however. The 6886 GPK is a great little set with its pop-up weapons. Both have the SP1 Space Lockup jail cells, which were far better than the newer SP2 ones.

I'm not sure what to do with my 6989 MCM. It's cool enough that I want to leave it built up, but at the same time, I want to use the wheels as thrusters for my carrier. I might just get a new set of the wheels off Bricklink.

That was one of my first sets too.

Now look what you've done....
Too much nostalgia :p

*makes account at brickset*

Just for the record though, these sets I accumulated over the years spent a GREAT deal of time assembled as various space-fighters and such:

http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6687-1
http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6368-1
http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6375-2
http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6356-1

In fact, iirc they *should* still be packed away in thier last iterations....

Blame CP. Works for me ;)

I remember 6356. Cool clam shell at the rear but it looked too small for 4 engines. Good basis for a Chinook style 'copter.

There's a lot of Futuron on ebay at the moment. I like the look of 6780.

I used to make these large spaceships every few years, combining all the sets I had up to that point. They all had fairly similar, airplane-like designs and were made in a jumble of random colors (couldn't afford to be picky about colors in those days). I think the last one, around 1995 or so, was built on 32x32 baseplates and was so flimsy that I couldn't lift it without the whole thing breaking up. :p

At least you can rest easy in the knowledge that there are people wasting much more money on this stuff than you. :nervous:

The XT Starship is pretty nice. I love those old L&S pieces. It's actually classic space due to the type of minifig it has, but it came out the same year as Futuron and has almost the same color scheme.

By the way, if anyone is interested, there is a large sale on many current sets right now on the Lego S@H website. I picked up the UCS Batmobile, which is only $35, along with a few small sets.

You have enough stuff now to stage a nice battle. :D I guess the bad guys would be outnumbered though.

Lego generally maintained a theme of releasing a good military faction, a bad military faction and a netural civilian faction (who mostly cooperated with the good guys) every three years. The two Blacktrons, Spyrius and UFO were the bad guys, the two Space Police, Unitron and Roboforce were the good sides, and the rest were the civilian groups.

Hmn, now I think about it I don't have any books, save for car magazines and some Max/Photoshop Manuals

Strange how I've got some many SP2 sets when I don't especially like that perticular theme. Small blacktron 1 and MTron ebay lots will probably finish off my space collection.

Probably because the SP2 sets themselves are very good. I don't think it's such a great theme either, especially given how crappy their jail cells are, but the sets were often superior to their SP1 counterparts (particularly their flagship set, the Galactic Mediator).

I'm trying to decide whether to use a compressor or a handpump for the pneumatic stuff in my BT2 model. A compressor would be cool and the model is going to have electric elements anyway, but the compressor motor drains the 9V battery in the small battery box quite fast and the larger Technic battery box would increase the weight a lot.
