I don't know if you know this, and if you do, good for you.  You see, there seems to be a great many confused/uninformed souls out there and I want to clear this up now and hopefully stop the trend before it gets too far out of control, or at least retard it's growth.  As I said, if you know this, don't worry about it so much, but realize you're slowly being outnumbered.

Catholics are Christans.

Thank you.

eh, it gets further away from christianity every time they change stuff.  and theyve been at it for about 1700 years, so i'm thinking its designation as still christianity is mostly honorary

How is a catholic being a christian an honorary thing?

i'm just a fan of oldschool 'turn the other cheek' and the good old grassroots christianity that they used to have back in the day.  none of all this complicated pope mess.

This "complicated pope mess" is what they had on the "old days", unless Peter old boy is way younger than I thought.

Besides, being a christian has nothing to do with recognition of the papacy.

This is nonsense! I've listened to lots of Catholic liturgy and sacred music, and they never talk about Jesus-- just some guy named "Agnus Dei."

Considering Catholicism is the literally original Christianity, that is quite impossible.

I wish it was.  There are people out there who seriously believe that Catholics are not Christan.  It scares the living hell out of me when they claim such a thing.

Anyway, I just wanted to make sure people were informed.  You can go about your buisness now if you wish.

Ah, Kernal, but didn't you say Mormons are not Christians?

So, by your arguments, wouldn't Catholics also not be Christians?

Or are you just wrong?

I just try and not take the whole thing too seriously.  Its meant to be a part of life in general...but not something you should stress over.  So I don't get all that worked up about it when people make fun of my church or anything like that.  I'm a Christian sure...a heck of alot of people are...way back when missionaries went all over the place converting people and bringing down empires and starting new ones and thats the way things went.

I wouldn't worry too much or take it too personally if some people aren't that well informed about history.  Its not a shocker really.

What, you mean the Catholics don't worship their God Cath? My worldview is shattered.
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

You are a Christian if you do two things:
1) Realize that you are a sinner
2) Place your trust* in Jesus to rescue you from that sin

Simple as that.  All this stuff about sprinkling/immersion baptism, papal/independent leadership, etc., is completely ancillary.

Though I must point out that the different denominations confuse the issue somewhat.  "What religion are you?"  "I'm Catholic."  "I'm Methodist."  "I'm Presbyterian."  No, you're a Christian first, and a denomination second.

*Long-term trust, not "sign here and you're done".
