DVD box art for FS2
First, I've done a search but sadly the links to the custom covers by you guys has evaporated :(

Second, I've just seen on amazon actual official dvd covers for the game (retailing at like $80) but the available pictures would look wrong if I just did a paint shop pro job on them.

So does anyone have dvd art for freespace 2?  I'm keeping the cd's in a DVD box now, so I'd like to keep a label of sorts.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/freespace-2/cover-art

There. US, French and German editions.

It was third on google search for "freespace 2" cover.

Good to find these, though... I have the Great War + FS2 bundle cover, but I don't have them with me right now (they are about 700 clicks away). But I guess these are the ones you were looking for?

EDIT: Though they put ugly MobyGames logo on them...  :hopping: ...bugger. Oh well you can always clone brush the logos away. Otherwise the pics are good enough quality IMO.

thanks dude, that's what I'm looking for. I was searching for game covers and fs2 dvd cover and just getting random sites.

Re: DVD box art for FS2
Yeah, they were not on first search... or second, or third. It took some tries after our common friend Google found what we needed.

This is what I have at home:

..thus I'm not sure if it's just that one, I think there were a few editions for that cover. Very similar it is, however.

Only problem with those pics I posted last time is indeed the nasty logo above :v:, and the fact that the pics are a little too wide... and there is nothing in the gap between them. Though it's relatively easy to put something in there.

EDIT: I edited the pictures a tiny bit and put them together into one file, plus put something really simple (but surprisingly good-looking) between them. If you want to take a look at it, here is the file... And if you will, you can easily put something more advanced between the front and back. That was really fast doodled together, so there definitely is room for improvement. But as I said, it looks surprisingly good under DVD's cover plastic... except that the back really has/had a tremendous amount of compression artefacts. I Gaussed them, increased contrast and brightness and they lessened... hopefully. Oh yeah, and I edited the Moby Games crap out of them and replaced the :v: logos with proper ones.

The file should be printable as it is, on 300 dpi.

Any change of getting a high-resolution scans of those? The MobyGames pics have HUGE compression artefacts, after all.

Is that a jewel case? The copy of FS2 that my brother borrowed from someone 6 or 7 years ago (the one that made me want to spend days scouring the internet for a copy five years later) was in a weird cardoard sorta flip case.

Re: DVD box art for FS2
I think that's just a box.

I, on the other hand, do have the joy of possessing Descent: Freespace &  Freespace: Silent Threat coupled flip case edition...  :p That box there doesn't look like a flip box. A flip box would be like this...

Flip box front(s)
The Great War backside
Silent Threat backside

How did you get one of those fat jewel cases? I got FS2 the day it came out and it came in the flimsy cardboard case thesizzler referred to (which has fallen apart over the years, it barely holds the CDs anymore).

Ah, I thought that thesizzler was speaking about the carton box and not the plastic CD container. :nervous:

Anyway... What are you using as an excuse of a camera, pecenipicek? Either your photography equipment or your skills at photography suck big time. And no, this is not meant to be an insult of any kind. I'm just curious.

Strat's cover redux is cool. But I think it needs to be reproduced. Someone should FRED a mission setting the background and the ships into space, and make the Moloch shoot at Deimos. Then, the screenshot should be taken so that the Deimos is pointing down when the screen is captured. That way we could get a 3:4 picture instead of traditional 4:3, if you get my meaning. A picture shaped like that would fit more nicely onto DVD cover.

To make sure I get my message clear, the current cover redux is like this:

_____________________
_____________________
_____________________
_____________________
_____________________
_____________________
_____________________

While a DVD cover should be shaped more like this:

_____________
_____________
_____________
_____________
_____________
_____________
_____________
_____________
_____________

I got mine at around 2000. It was the original 3 CD set with the box art of the moloch blasting the deimos. i'm going HOLY CRAP FS2! I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A SEQUEL!!111one.

i had a decent enough GFX card to play FS2 on my windows 98, but it had an annoying flickering around the entire screen. the entire starfield, HUD, and every ship would disappear, or at other times only the HUD would remain. didn't get that problem in nebulae though.

its a european release... i think. dunno. i was lucky i guess. we never got any games outside jewel cases. until a few years ago when the DVD boxes hit the shelves. DVD boxes are one of the reasons i dont buy games anymore...

no insult taken :D

well, reason number 1, i've been having some problems with my hand coordination lately, and well, i'm a bit jittery... it goes away the same way it comes... *shrugs*
reason number2, well, its a relatively ancient digicam. a Fujifilm Finepix A310 i borrowed from my sis, i think it had a fair share of abuse and is going the way of dodo...

apart from my inability to hold my hands still, there's nothing wrong. too much :p

i used to take some pretty nice photos, but this camera is simply... well... bonkers. i get clearer pics with my bloody webcam. but the resolution on the webcam sucks sadly...

anyways, Cobra, did you have one of those TNT's or TNT2's? i've heard around that time that they were sometimes playing bonkers with the graphics in FS2...

Interesting, because if your camera uses even half-sane exposure times (like, say, 1/60th s), even one with terminal Parkinson disease could take decent enough shot.

If your camera only has automatic control and you don't want to use the flash (as is often case with this kind of subjects, reflections are BAD), you have to find a place where there is strong lighting, preferably ambient (indirect). Outdoors with a cloudy sky is great. Good lighting makes the automatic system drop down the exposure time and decrease the aperture, which both increase the sharpness of the image.

If you can't increase the amount of light, you can try to find a setup to increase the CCD cell sensitivity. This, however, also increases the amount of noise in the picture - often quite substantially, so this is usually the almost last resort...

If you have a manual control on your camera, even if it's half assed as they usually are on small digi cams, learn to use it. Generally, use as short an exposure time as possible, and as small an aperture as possible. If the stability of your hand prohibits you using "long" exp times such as 1/20 s or even 1/10 s, use shorter exposure times and bigger aperture.

One more nice trick. If you have trouble pressing the trigger of the camera and keeping the camera steady meanwhile, you can try and set the self-trigger on to, say, three seconds. That way you can press the trigger, keep the aim and perhaps support your hand on to something, and when the auto-trigger takes the picture, your fingers don't need to move. I sometimes use this method when the lighting is poor but I definitely don't want to use the flash... I've got decently stable pics at 1/8 s, sometimes.

You shouldn't have any problems with exp. times at about 1/60 s. It's small enough a time that even with trembling hands the pic would be rather sharp. But like I said, if you use automatic control and set the flash off, and the lighting is poor, the automatic will set the time on too big, resulting on trembling pics like yours. In your case, you can actually safely take a bit under-exposured pictures and edit the lighting on computer, if you just can find the manual controls of your cam.

...Of course, if the camera is old enough and bashed enough, it won't work as it should, and you can't get good pictures.

And if you know anything about photography, this message is utter waste of time, but all the same... I can't know what your knowledge level is exactly.  ;)

not really meaningless, but its bashed enough or either i'm an idiot and i dont know how to adjust such stuff :p
and i'm not sure my came is even half-sane  :p

i'll try to poke around with it tho, to see what can i do with exposure times...
