Most of the reliable sources in Russia are stating that Al-Quada has purchased fourteen tactical nuclear devices (the small ones in breifcases so I heard) from a former KGB officer. The only thing that he lacks to use these devices are the key-codes to arm the timers. As far as our sources can tell he still doesn't have them (like, duh... I think we'll know pretty much the instant he gets them, KA-BOOM!)
And Al-Quada has plenty of $$$. One of their major money makers is in drug trafficking, which is a multi-billion dollar industry. Just cause they live in caves and eat sheep-guts doesn't mean they don't have (or can't get) money.
I heard /read that, although it was saying there were 2 suitcase bombs in a bunker in the Middle East... same thing though. I think a nuclear physicist (or biochemist - not sure) was stopped from going to Afghanistan in Pakistan, too.
Terrifying thought, indeed. But he doesn't have the codes, and it's unlikely he has too many nuclear physicists able to 'crack' the firing triggers. The question is whether he can transport them to a target..... I'd imagine even suitcase nukes are hard to hide, if the authorities are checking for them.
Incidentally, Bin Laden had assets of over £250m , although some were frozen by the Saudi govenrment when he was expelled. He has very high resources, however..... but I don't think he can hide much longer. Soomer or later - if he's not already dead - he'll show his ugly face on another video, and they'll track hime down.
Also, I read a new report that CIA unmanned drones & jets destroyed an Al-Queda building yesterday... don't know how many commanders were in there, though.
