As a "prequel" to my Triton container carrier, lets go retro and make a Cronus container carrier! But mind you these containers are much smaller, so you're only getting 3 fighters (or small bombers) in there. But on the plus side, there's fun subobject animations with the doors.





So thoughts about this guy?

FINALLY!!! A ship that can actually realistically be a "not so well off" fighter group's "home carrier". =D I could see this type of Chronos being used by mercenary or pirate groups well into and through the 2367's.

(Or even by GTVI. The Chronos is already small enough to be a stealth carrier. Paint a Chronos black and launch Pegasus stealth fighters from it, XD.)

You should finish both versions of this (both wide and small) they both look equally impressive.

What next, cargo containers that are in fact missile launchers? Or a "cargo container" that adds wide-swept "wings" to the Chronos that contain more weapons (or extra engines to increase the ship's speed)? XD You've got my mind racing with ideas, man. I eagerly await what you come up with next

Using doors like that gave me an idea. How about also having a perfectly normal looking, entirely inconspicuous container, no control tower or anything, with the same doors and inside arrangement?

Would be perfect for spec-ops missions as you could sneak a full wing in behind enemy lines on a civvy ship, then have them appear out of nowhere. Or for ambusing elusive capships, just lay out a juicy looking depot with no apparent protection, then dump a few such containers full of fighters and bombers inthere, wait for the inevitable Orion to make an attack run, and pounce. Oh, the possibilities...

Mmmm...i'd imagine though that GTVA laws would require "fighterbay containers" to make their purpose obvious by physical design. Pirate groups, NTF, or GTVI (since they can break the rules, lol) would probably end up using more completely inconspicuous (and highly illegal/expensive) fighter-containers.

Legally approved mercenary groups would probably use the current Axem designs --- more-obviously-modified-looking containers. lol, i could go on all day about the possibilities myself

Ì think you should change the title of this thread. Actually, this is a very good and unique idea you made here, and nothing silly
It would be a cheap way for any militia forces bringing in fighter crafts into outer rim system when no destroyer/real carrier is available.
Using rather old ships like the cronos for retrofitting sounds also logic (cheaper than building new ones).

What I a little dislike is the bridge-like structure on top of the hangar-container. I would like to have it without it, but it's your design and
decision after all. I'm curious to see it finally textured, keep it up

It wouldn't work if this carrier jumps in during the mission!

These carriers looks like the Chronos(Haha!) as well as some Starlancer carriers and the Unknown Destroyer in Colony Wars:Vengeance.

It IS a Chronos, LOL. I love this design so much I can't stop thinking of ideas for it. XD The Chronos has a lot of promise as a multipurpose civilian ship.

I would gladly use this type of ship as a home base if it were all I could afford. I mean, in the 2367's, The Chronos is OLD -- surely inexpensive. So, if I were a mercenary group squad leader, and I wanted a cheap, affordable ship that could transport my fighter wing around the star systems we were hired to patrol, and allow them to be launched inside subspace if need be, I would surely buy this sucker. The only problem with such a thing is that the fighters patrolling it would be its only defense.

Which is why I suggested weapons-platform Chronos containers, to compliment the fighterbay designs. Get three Chronos freighters with two weaponsplatform containers and one "fat" 6-fighter fighterbay container like Axem's second design, and you've got yourself a nice entry-level mercenary group.

Or instead of 6 fighterbays on one fat container, could use the rest of that space for just two Hercules and then use the rest of that space for flak turrets (at least two). Then you have yourself a makeshift Aeolus with fighter escort that seats two fighter pilots and whatever crew fits inside the Chronos.

This trend of "making freighters do other things" is quite fun

Shade: Nice idea. I take the bridge tower off of the thin one and on the outside give it the same textures as the Chronus' container. Perfect for ambushes.

Starman01: The idea may not be silly, but I find it kinda funny using containers as makeshift hangars.

I may take out the bridge tower. Originally it was intended to communicate with the fighters for general flight commands and stuff. But that could all be done inside the Cronus. I'll probably redesign it a bit, maybe just have radar and communications stuff on top.
