Can someone please tell me or point me to a website to tell me what the these online terms mean please ie, l33t, imho etc, i know what some of them mean like L8r = later and u = you. ?

I have just started playing World of Warcraft and when people send me messages i have no idea what they are trying to say and when i ask what they mean i get the piss taken out of me and i have given lots of abuse, only one person has be friendly to me!! I have to saying since joining the online community i didnt realise that online gaming is so aggressive, i also started playing Dawn of War Winter Assault online since i have just got broadband, i lost my first game but when i won my second i was acused of cheating! just because i beat someone who has been playing it online since that game was released. I thought playing games was about having fun??? After that and the abuse i am seem to be getting on World of Warcraft i am thinking of canceling my sub which would mean that i have wasted £30 as you cant return PC games anymore which is a shame because i was enjoying myself before it all started. Why are online games so aggresive? (i know not everyone is like that certainly everyone at the Hardlight productions forums a very friendly and that i have just prob been unlucky).

Ps sorry if my grammer is abit screwed up.

Wikipedia to the rescue!. Probably some missing, but it should cover the basics. And l33t = Elite, but also an alternative alphabet of sorts used for, curiously enough, l33tspeak. It basically involves substituting real characters for others that appear somewhat similar (3 for E, + for t etc.), but there aren't really any set rules for it that I know of.

[Edit] Ah, another wikipedia rescue! Leet.

n00b = newbie with a negative connotation. newb = newbie with not such a negative connotation.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

As for the agressiveness you describe above.. the internet is just like the real world, you'll find your share of idiots and rude people.
Some are sore losers and will more often than not boast on themselves much more than they are capable of and start racking down on you.
But ofcourse, as with everything there are upsides too, you just have to search a bit harder for them usually. There are many many nice people there, you just have to find them.
Just don't give up on it and I'm sure things will get a wee bit brighter :)

Actually, when dealing with '1337-speak', the pseudo-language has a rather diverse history, as noted here.

If you want an actual dictionary containing references to this mysterious online language, I suggest you paruse the Urban Dictionary. I'm sure it will supply you with the definitions you need to help you on your way in becoming another online gaming degenerate. :)

Gameing is all about fun. But when you venture to Online Gameing, it tends to be all about being the best, and kicking peoples asses. Both take aggression. Mulitply that by how many ppl are online, the thouzands that there are at one given time.
