cpu/mobo compataility question
earlyer today my old boss called me and asked me to build a computer for him. so i agreed, told him after work id do some reserch and give him some options and various prices and such. at first i was gonna use the same cpu and mobo i used in my computer, as he was impressed with its performance and i, its reliability. as it turns out that board is no longer made and thus i am forced to use modern tedchnology (stuff less than a year old). anyway as usual everythings different than last time i bought computer stuff. i decided on an athlon 64 single or dual core system. i just need to know if a processor that is rated for 2000 mhz hypertransport will run on a mobo that only goes up to 1000 mhz ht.

Re: cpu/mobo compataility question
It's the same. HT is double data rate so 1GH and 2GH HT means the same HT 2.0 standard. HT 1.0 was 800MHz / 1.6GHz. HT 3.0 capable CPU's and motherboards may hit the market for christmas.

Edit: I suggest you look into Intel Core 2 Duo and motherboards with Intel P965 chipset.

Re: cpu/mobo compataility question
i see. probibly just the processor advertising the doubled version to make it look better. while the mobo people want to be more accurate. ok thanks for your help. i should get payed quite abit for this job. :D

i dont think il use intell though, just on the grounds that i havent used intell in years, and would have to learn alot more about something which has become alien. also the system im building need not be state of the art.

Re: cpu/mobo compataility question
No, the CPU is advertising effective data rate. The mainboard is advertising the frequency of the clock signal. There's no devious marketroid intervention required.
