Return of the big ole bastard...
Well, i've been revamping the model of TerrAlly's Firefly-class drone destroyer, for the.. umpteenth time now, and, well, here's the newest revamp, i still need to do some greebling, merge the X-positioned wings with the main body and smooth it all properly, all in all, this is a major clean-up of the said model and i'm planning on completely redoing the material to give it more of a.. rough-ish feel. also, before you ask, i am the king of shiny and spiky ships :p

(ignore the beam... i was too lazy to turn it off :nervous: )
Heavy WIP.
[edit] i forgot to add the pic...  :hopping: here it is.

its 5AM and i havent slept all night, gimme a break.

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...
Nice, but is it just me, or is it slightly reminiscent of Nuke's Phoenix-class fighter?

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...
Just from the angle and the carapace-like hull stretching around it what looks like a circle [from this angle] just looks a bit like Nuke's Phoenix, which had a design of a carapace-like circle stretching from the engines to the cockpit.

There we go. Like I said, just a subtle nuance, nothing to derail the thread about... Oops, too late. :nervous;

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...
I say it looks very cool.

Love the angles of it. Too many spaceships have streamlined hulls (I wonder why.... no friction in space).

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...

people often remarked i did either too shiny or too spikey ships, so i was a little bit worried about this :)

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...
They can look at the Rakshasa, Sathanas, and CommNode and say there is such a thing as "too spiky"... :doubt:

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...
I think that second model (The "Ion Frigate") looks quite good. The first one looks like kitchenware from hell. :P

The destroyer is also good. Kinda like a scaled down Hades, at least that's what it reminded me of.

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...
Nah, it looks brilliant. Would dearly love to get my hands on that thing, write up some table data, and try it out.

How close is it to release-level completion anyway?

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...
quite frankly, its release ready right now, all i need is render the textures and try to incorporate a 260k poly 16 KM behemoth in FS2 :p

(260k polys with hypernurbs on 2. the control mesh is some 18k i think, and it looks good without nurbs too, however, if its gonna go into fs2, its gonna be helluva lot more optimised.)

Re: Return of the big ole bastard...
16 klicks? Didn't know it was that big.

Well, it is not as large as Inferno's Gigas, so don't worry about FS2 not handling a ship that size.
