I just replayed the first mission on the nebula and wanted to ask two things, first, what could have possibly happened to kappa wing? We know they just vanished at first but later a single pilot comes back screaming to shutdown the portal leading me to believe they may have hitted across the second knossos and saw the Sathanas fleet.

The second thing, on the Trinity, we all know what it was sent to do but I noticed that there were terran debris in the area and that couldnt have been from the Trinity itself plus wouldnt a science vessel be better to activate the knossos? A single Leviathan on a shivan infested nebula wouldnt last long, there had to be more ships, specially given the nature of their mission, wouldnt Bosch have assigned more then one ship to make sure the job got done?

Judging from the radio chatter between Command and the Trinity, it seems clear that the Trinity and some other NTF ships were ambushed by the Shivans in the nebula and the Trinity barely escaped the fight.  I'd guess that the terran debris would be the remains of the other ships that were with the Trinity at the time.
The CB later in the game says that the Trinity activated the Knossos, but maybe it was in fact a science cruiser that performed that task and the Trinity was just along to provide protection.

As for what happened to the rest of Kappa wing, I've no idea except that they got lost and/or destroyed.  Or maybe Command gave them a false nav route to follow. :nervous:

This is what I think happened as well. Kappa ran across the Sathanas, but given the time that Kappa had gone missing, Command may have assumed that Kappa had only run across the Ravana. Therefore, Command "classified" it (read: wrote it off) and assumed business as usual.

They must have saw the Sathanas fleet, not the first one, the pilot that reapperead sounded downright freaked out wich I think what laid beyond the second knossos was pretty much capable of doing that. Well, or maybe that kappa that reapperead could have been from another patrol and had no connection whatsoever with this one.

Damn you freespace for being so open ended. :P

There's a campaign in the story of what happened to Kappa wing between Mystery of the Trinity and A Game of Tag.

A campaign with a lot of red alerts which is faustratingly hard to complete with no way to rearm or repair damage :)

Ah, and I thought you meant Cobra's Secrets from a while back.

Looks like another FS2 history campaign needs to be done--Blaise?

Secrets? Whats that? :drevil:  Another campaign?

Actually if a campaign was to be made of this, I think it would be either:
a) a short campaign, 4 to 6 missions maybe.
or
b) a longer campaign, along the lines of Sync and/ or Homesick.

I can just imagine, after a encounter with a immense shivan force, everybody on kappa wing panicks and jumps out to another place, after awhile they bump into the survivors of the original NTF force that was sent to activate the portal, they join up and after flying blind for a awhile discover the 2nd knossos, they jump in thinking its the first but run like hell after seeing were they ended up, later only one manages to make it out alive and bumps into a couple GTVA ships field testing a certain new missile, cool, huh?

While that solves the resupply problem you do have to wonder why GTVA pilots wouldn't just jump back to the Aquitane rather than hanging out with the NTF.

You could easily spin some techno-babble-crap, such as: 'a faulty electronic circuit on Kappa 3's landing-light array inciting a large  discharge from latent electromagnetism within the local nebula-gas, which overloads the navigational memory buffers on board the fighters, thereby inhibiting their ability to locate friendly forces within the vast, gasseous environment, let alone plot a subspace jump back to base.'

Then, you could explain both their teaming-up with NTF forces and mistaking the 2nd Knossoss with the 1st one due to being chased by Shivans. Certainly not original, but it gets the job done nicely. But the GTVA Ships field-testing a new missile... well that's just bullocks.

  • Ouch.
Perhaps the NTF stragglers, not realising the wing's lack of support, would surrender on sight to Kappa wing.  The wing commander might decide to attempt shepherding the stragglers back to the Aquitane, in hopes of acquiring intel on the NTF mission.

Elements of this would seem to work within Mefustae's suggestion as well.

Kappa wouldn't have thought that the second Knossos was the first because, in the nebula, there is only a jump node, as the Knossos is on the OTHER side of the Node (as in Argonautica and Into the Lions Den). See?

yea i was puzzled before and then checked. kappa wing stays around aquatine with iota. i dunno why iota can send msg and kappa cant. i stayed with it and zeta 1 with pushing me to follow him so i target it but stayed still. when i looked back after a while iota is still there, but kappa dissappeared, no depart msg in event window, not on the ship menu. thats wat happened, didnt get captured but just disspeared
The only forgiveness is between them and God, it is up to me to arrange for that meeting.

Kappa get hit with a Ship-Vanish SEXP.

I too followed them once in the hope of seeing what happened to them. I was kinda disappointed and there was a nice opportunity there for :v: to have stuck in a little easter egg.

You know I'm talking about the tag missile, right?

The 2nd knossos is on the other side of the nebula but they would be chased that far in the first place, well, if anyone wants to make a campaign out of this, I'd help.

  • It's 5 minutes to midnight.
Since i only have FS2: Colossus, I have tried many things like this...

I never stayed around long enough to see Kappa mysteriously vanish...

Anyone else ever gone AWOL and tried to take out the Colossus? I did that on the Enif Station mission... as you can guess a single interceptor didn't stand up against the most powerful ship in the entire game... Maybe i'll have to completely disable the Colossus with cheats... give myself invunerability and unlimited weapons... see how long it takes to knock out the entire Colossus with Stilleto II missiles, and how much hull damage will be dealt (probably 5%)
NGTM-1R: Currently considering spending the rest of the day in bed cuddling.
GTSVA: With who...?
Nuke: chewbacca?
Bob-san: The Rancor.

Most powerful ship in entire game= Sathanas, not Colossus.

The only reason the Colossus beat the original Sathanas is because bombers took out the Sathanas's main guns, and even then the Colossus took moderate hull damage, in addition to redlining all of its secondary reactors and nearly melting its main beams.....
