you didn't see the game, they didn't play like it was a pre-season friendly, they played like the championship depended on it - AND look at the list of names on that roster

almost the best 23 players (obviously not all of them played) vs the best roster on the planet (16 out of 23 men are world cup 2006 participants, including many national heroes)

My point is - our league is geting better.  two of our teams have games today so some of our stars were unavailable yesterday

All I'll say is that Rangers beat Juventus and Steau Bucharest in a pre-season friendly competition comfortably a few years back, drew them in the Champions League  that season, and suffered 3 defeats and a draw.

That's an example of how meaningless pre-season friendlies are, and consequently how pointless it is crowing over them.

Problem is the MLS teams are never tested in competitive matches against teams from Europe or South America.  You can't really say if the league is getting stronger from watching a friendly.  I'm not saying the MLS is weak, I'm just saying that it's difficult to say gow strong it is in comparison with other leagues, when we lack a worldwide competition like the Champions' League is for Europe.

In any case;  a friendly is not worth crowing about.  Because it's a friendly.  Take a match where the result really matters, then it counts.

the result does matter, it matters for respect.  Barcelona is touring the US as well I believe, however Barcelona's roster doesn't hold up to Chelsea's - 16 of 23 members of Chelsea are 2006 world cup alumni.

Should be noted that Chelsea actually isn't even seeded in the top layer for the Champions League. They are a very, very good team, but in my opinion not in the top 10 (perhaps even 20, as they have a tendancy to not deliver when they really need to, which is bad for a top team) in Europe. It is still an accomplishment to beat them though, even in a friendly, and definitely something the MLS players can feel good about, and perhaps even brag a bit

They're unseeded because a few years ago they weren't even in the Champions' League.  At the moment I'd say they're in the top 3 sides in Europe along with Barcelona and AC Milan, and there's very little between the three of them IMO.
