A plea for help (openal)
I cannot get the openal installer to install the required dll's. I have downloaded the openalweax.exe and have run the file but it does not put the dll's anywhere I can find them. The installer gives me the message "installation completed" but no devIL.dll in the Freespace2 or Windows folders.  I am using an Intel D865PERL motherboard that has realtek audio intergrated on the mobo. I am hoping someone else has had this or someone can give pointers.

Thanks for your help.

Re: A plea for help (openal)
What build are you trying to run?

And afaik devIL.dll has nothing to do with OpenAL... its graphics related dll (iirc .dds files) that is no longer even needed to run FSOpen.
Do not meddle in the affairs of coders for they are soggy and hard to light

Re: A plea for help (openal)
I am using Shivansps pack on this computer. I am getting a failed to read flag error when I run the launcher. From reading previous posts the openal stuff seemed to fix it for most people. That was the direction I was trying to go but I might be having other types of problems.
Thanks for the reply.

Re: A plea for help (openal)
When you run the OpenAL installer it adds the .dlls to the Windows\System32 folder. You won't see them but if the installer reported success they should be there.

The flags problem is usually caused by a lack of openAL. It didn't go away after you installed it?

Re: A plea for help (openal)
No the failed to read flag did not go away. I have even copied the dll's from the system32 folder to the Freespace2 folder. I ran a debug build from the launcher and now i can see that it is giving me an error that my opengl version is 1.1 and it needs opengl 1.2. The funny thing is I have Windows XP pro WITH service pack 2 installed (or so the system properties is reporting). It is my understanding that SP2 put full support for opengl 1.2 in it.

Now here is the thing I am trying this on my work pc to see if I can get it working to fiddle with it during slow times. We got these machines from a local vendor. My home pc runs everything great and I hand built it! I am using an ATI 9800 Pro in the home machine as well as this one. Same drivers etc. The only difference is the Mobo and cpu.

Work:
Intel Pentium(R) 4 3.2Ghz
W865PERL mobo
1Gb RAM
9800 PRO video card (CATALYST 6.7 Drivers)
intergrated sound (REALTEK)
Windows XP w/SP2

Home:
AMD Athlon +3200 (Socket 754)
Albatron K8X800 mobo
1Gb RAM
9800 Pro video card (CATALYST 6.7 Drivers)
Audigy 2 ZS soundcard
Windows XP Home w/SP2

I am just trying to get ShivanSPS basic package to work on the work PC. like I said it worked perfectly on the home pc but it is giving me fits on this one.
Any way thanks for the reply's.

Try this build.

You'll need the patches too. They should go in your mediavps folder.

Re: A plea for help (openal)
To all that this may help: I have discovered that the problems I have been having is not due to openal but a problem with either the video card or system memory. I am leaning toward the video card end as it is an ATI 9800 pro that I have already sent back once with problems and none of the other programs that I use on this machine use the 3D feature on the card (it is my work machine ssssh don't tell anyone). As I stated before my home machine has a similar setup and I have no problem with running FS2_open. Well to be honest I am having some problem with FS2_open freezing up during play both in FS2_open and HL2, but I think that is a heat issue and I will be checking the fan's and power supply to confirm this.

Thanks for all your reply's and comments. You are a great help to all.
