Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
Well, a 'fit to viewscreen' option might be better, that way, regardless of the size of the object, you'll be able to get the best possible zoom for it?

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
it's already supposed to make a fair guess at that when the model is loaded

Am I to take it that I'm not getting bug reports about the COB loader because it's working right?

Or not many people are following this thread still.  Maybe make a new one requesting testers.

well everything apears to work. thats a whole different thing from actually working. i havent tested the autogen features though, are they exactly the same as from pcs1?

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
Quick question, what are the odds of PCS2 working on non-Windows platforms?

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
i have a problem.

PMF to COB conversion and materials - the problem is smoothing data.  the PMF data stores the facet_angle defined by COB, so COB->PMF then right back again in that reguard isn't a problem.

POF->PMF->COB is... POF doesn't store the facet angle, it stores the normals.   I either have to do a (VERY CPU INTENSIVE) guestimation routine on POF load and guess the angle..... or I have to output everything as either faceted or smoothed from a POF load...

thoughts?

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
export the angles too another file. IE: before you do COB --> PMF ask the user if he wants to export the facet data to a file. then when you ant to go PMF --> COB, ask the user for the file. if he doesn't have one, make everything faceted.

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
PMF stores it... POF doesn't.. there are POFs we don't have the COBs for (technically .3ds files.... since that's what V used)

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
i'm still kinda leaning against making them save another file - while it's CPU intensive, from the user standpoint it's still simplier (though potentially less accurate) for it to figure the facet angles by reverse-engineering

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
Why not have both? ask the user what he wants, let him decide. (yes I know thats alot more coding, I know.)

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
If the user has the facet-file to the POF, they must have had access to the original COB or PMF file. Why not provide an option to extract the angles from one of those, and if neither are available, guesstimate the normals?

It seems like if you're not going to implement autogeneration from the normals, you'll have trouble with all the old POF files that you don't have access to the faceting angle data for.

Re: Official PCS2 Feature Request thread
isn't that what I said? :wtf:

EDIT: never mind, I get it... use the models not the facet file...
