Laptop brands

In the next few months (money permitting), I intend on buying a new laptop to replace my ageing, and kind of dying, Dell. There are many brands here, but I really don't know about their quality.


1.) Benq

2.) Lenovo

3.) Fujitsu

4.) Acer

5.) Asus

6.) Samsung

7.) Toshiba

8.) HP & compaq (bleh)

And I think there is a couple of others I am forgetting, basically there is a lot of product selection. I want to know which one of these brands is the best? I need something that will last for many years without having too much in the way of hardware issues........

If I were to buy a laptop today (or soon, which I am), I'd buy a Lenovo Thinkpad. I think they still have the same old good quality as when IBM manufactured the thinkpad series. IE, they don't break easily, which I see as a pro. And they have a trackpoint, which I prefer over a touchpad.
But all in all, most of those brands you listed have a good reputation. I could just as well recommend a fujitsu or something. no hp/compaq tho, and I haven't heard a lot about benq to be able to judge it.

I have an IBM Thinkpad (T43), which could very well be made of solid granite - it's that sturdy.

ive got a nice gateway 7510GX,  its got a beastly processor (AMD64 3700+), and an x600 mobile thats mostly kept up with newer games, but plays FS2_Open flawlessly.  its got 100 gigs of hard drive space too.  it was $1250 a little more than a year ago.

when you buy a new laptop its imortant to see that the laptop is sturdy and well built and that it can take smaller accidental hits. many people have to pay extra money to repair their laptops just beacuse they accidently bumped the machine against something and the next day they find that the HDD has crashed or some other component. also don't forget to have extra insurance.

I am very happy with my Samsung R50. Actually I saw R55 yesterday, it looks like it is one hell of a machine: new core duo cpu, 1gb RAM and a Geforce 7600 gpu
