I am so proud of myself....
I bought this game back in 2000, and I've played the main campaign a couple times. After several years, I've come back to FS2, and I'm playing the main campaign again. Back in the day, I was never able to destroy all four beam cannons on the Sathanas in Bearbaiting. The best I was ever able to do was 3.

Today, first try at this mission, and I DID IT!!! Even with a bulky bandage on my index finger and I was having to use my middle finger as the trigger finger on my joystick. But then, I couldn't destroy the Demon and I lost the Vasudan corvette.

Tried again, and again, I was able to take out all four beam cannons, destroyed the Demon, and was able to save the corvette (with a hull integrity of 6%). But then it got rammed twice by debris and blew up. Oh well, command should've sent a destroyer.

The GTVA sure knows how to launch feint attacks. You have the Colossus with her engines shut off, her battle group (all three ships) who apparently had problems with their weapon reactors, and a motley crew of fighters. No wonder the Bastion's escorts got decimated.

If you check the debriefing, the Thebes was a Destroyer.Like the Cyrene and the Messana, names of cities are used for destroyers.

Just to really annoy you there is a bonus goal if you can destroy the LRed beam on the back of the Sathanas too.

Good luck doing all that and taking out the flak guns in time :p

The ship behind it does. :p

Pretty much anyone who cares about going beyond killing the two beams needed in order to complete the mission :D

I never actually destroyed ANY of the main beams...

I let Colly handle the Sathanas with 4 beams active...

I went in later and blew up a few beams, however!

 No it wasn't it was a corvette. If you look very closely, it looks EXACTLY like a Sobek. It also has the exact same arnament and stats. :P

You must be imagining things, or maybe you created your own mission at one point.  It's impossible to advance to the next mission with fewer than two beams destroyed.

Yes, but you don't need to win the mission to progress in the tech room

Re: I am so proud of myself....
actually i did it in a multiplayer game, offline, using AI scripts. Reduced to 0 respawns to replicate the normal...

I did that when I had OEM. As of now, I have SCP 3.6.9 installed ontop of OEM. Effectively, it's a light installation of Retail (missing the cutscenes and all the dialogue).

I have quite basically maximum settings on 3.6.9, with the advanced effects and highest poly models... I put everything to max and I'm getting about 10fps in the nebula mission...

My PC (old, crappy, 4 years old)
2.0GHz Intel Celeron (400mhz FSB, 128kb L2 cache or something)
512MB DDR Memory (PC2100, 512MBx1)
PNY nVidia FX 5200 (APG 4x, 128MB)
80GB HDD (7200rpm, 8mb cache)
Windows XP Home SP2

Karajorma, yes I do use SCP 3.6.9 RC7. It works great ontop of OEM if you have all VP's except the cell one....

Re: I am so proud of myself....
Doesn't surprise me. I've always said that Colossus is similar enough to retail that you'd barely notice the difference except in the main campaign. And geting hold of Tango 2 and 3 as well as the root_fs2.vp from my HotU crack pack would probably take care of the other differences too.

The low frame rates in nebulae is a reported problem if you use D3D instead of OpenGL though.

Re: I am so proud of myself....
OpenGL is actually causing a few problems with instability... I use D3D because OpenGL froze my game after hitting the windows key instead of some other key... IDR which.

So far, OEM is acting like FS2_Open; I can play techroom single missions that I couldn't before...

I just want the actual files and cutscenes for the main campaign... I'll use the simulated speech for everything else. It doesn't bother me...

Yeah, I think I simply need root_fs2.vp......

What are normal framerates for the nebula?

You shouldn't notice much of a difference.

To get the  voices you'd need the proper version of Stu_fs2.vp. I doubt you have the ~160MB version from what you say.

Re: I am so proud of myself....
as I said, i don't want the voices...

I have 1/3 of the voices, and the simulated voices are fine for me... I'll get the other 2/3 later...

I gave up on getting retail by itself... so i went for SCP on OEM.

Oh, and I'm downloading Inferno R1 (patched for SCP), Derelict SCP (patch too, no voice-acting), and Sol: A history. I am receiving both FS1 and FS2 cutscenes, and will try to fit as much as I can on a 512mb flash drive... i'll clear out the last download (SCP 3.6.9 RC7 with all but Cell vp's)

EDIT: 440mb free on the flash drive; I won't clear anything else out though

Re: I am so proud of myself....
I always destroy all four beams its piece of cake for me... is my floor for that mission... I never advance to the Next one unless I destroy all four beams... my best is destroying both Flaks too, its hard... I always send lpha to attack one and Delta to attack the other one but their never destroy it :S

Also, the Demon is very easy I always destroy it, just destroy the side beams and disable it... you need 3 Helios for that :P

Re: I am so proud of myself....
With the SD Demon...re-arm as soon as the Sathanas is jumping out (not even fully jumped out yet).  Then fire your bank of Trebuchet missiles at the two beam cannons from long range.  Both beams will be down and the Sobek can savage the Demon till you get there and can lob a few Helios at it.
