Really stupid question

On one of my computers, whenever I hit spacebar it decides to act like backspace. I ran into this problem once many years ago, but I don't remember what I did to fix it (or figure it out for that matter). How do I change that setting?

  Do you have a progamming keyboard? If you do go to your control panel.  Go to keyboard and adjust the properties if you have it and then hit apply. Hopfully that helps.

Does it do it with other keyboards too? First step is to find out if it's at the computer end or the peripheral end.
