But once every two years, I nonetheless find myself enjoying the Ryder Cup. And it's only in part because of the fact that the US keeps getting beaten senseless (though that definitely does help - Go Europe with 10-6 after the first two days). It's the form of play; why do normal golf tournaments have to be played in such a uniformly boring way, when the matchplay seen at the Ryder Cup actually manages to make it interesting, even dramatic at times?
I've tried watching the broadcasts from the european tour, and it just doesn't do anything for me. I've tried playing it, and I was quickly bored out of my skull (I was also utterly incompetent, but that's a different matter). Bascially, for all intents and purposes, I find golf a boring game not worth my time, yet, matchplay actually manages to make it interesting. And I'm actually excited about tomorrow.
Why don't more golf tournaments get played like this?
