I got some good feedback and participation on my last puzzle I posted, so here is a new one for you to grind your brains on.  This one is... :drevil:...  Well, that smiley says it all...

Individual letters are separated by slashes.

As per usual, decipher the riddle first, then apply that info to the code.

The riddle:

Two units of three, pirate map's marker, and the lesser of pound reveals ::: not quite all...  Or you could ask Eta Onir.  She has the answer.

The code:

-5.5/2/-7.5/-0.5/-1/-3.5/1/1.5/-4/-2/-6/-6.5/2.5/0/-5/-1.5/3.5/4.5/-7/-4.5/3/-2.5/0.5/4/-3/5

A hint:

A=1, B=2, etc.

Have fun!

Bush (Verb) -- To do stupid things with confidence.

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

Bumper stickers at my college:
"Republicans for Voldemort!"
"Frodo failed.  Bush got the Ring."

Resistance is futile!  (If < 1 ohm...)

Correct on both counts!

The riddle now reads:

Two units of three, X, and ? ounces ::: not quite all...  Or you could ask Eta Onir.  She has the answer.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Something goes in place of that question mark.

The lesser of pound I'd guess is ounce.

or it could mean something like "tap". as in, tapping is gentler (and therefore less forceful) than pounding on something. something along those lines

or it could be British pounds, so he's talking about... uh, shilling or pence or whatever they have. "cents".

I never thought of either of those interpretations.  We're gonna need those thinking outside the box skills on the other half of this riddle. :D

2(3), 24 [assuming X = 24th letter in alphabet], and ? ounces, blah blah blee blah blah.

(6) + 24 + Ounces = 30 + _ ounces

I have no idea what Eta Onir is, though.

two units of three literally means 2(3).

Hint:  There are 3 things on a table.  You take 2.  How many do you have?  (The answer goes in place of "Two units of three.")

2(3), 24 [assuming X = 24th letter in alphabet], and ? ounces, blah blah blee blah blah.

(6) + 24 + Ounces = 30 + _ ounces

I have no idea what Eta Onir is, though.

"? Ounces" is a number.  What number comes to mind with ounces and pounds?

And the "X" part is solved.  Nothing more needs to be done with that letter.

eta onir is rino ate backwards

Close...The Eta Onir part is independent of the other part of the riddle.  It's actually two riddles in one.  But you only need to solve one to get the answer.

-----------------------------------------------------------

You're all making good progress.  Keep it up!  :D

EDIT:  I should mention, the answer to this riddle isn't a message.  It's a very special sequence of letters.

so its two-thirds x + ?ounces

Close, 3 is just an arbitrary number I picked, just to make it a little tougher.  If you take 2 things, you have 2 things.  Hence, 2 goes in place of "Two units of three."

16 is the only number I associate with ounces.

It is 16.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The riddle, fully translated, is:

2X+16=

----------------------------------------------------------------

Now just apply it to the code.  ;7

what?

I thought you said the riddle was 2(3) + 24 + Ounces[16]

How'd you get 2X?

2(3) + 24 + 16 = 46

And if X is a variable and you lied before:

2(3) + x +16 = 22x

I didn't lie.

2 units of 3 = 2
Pirate map's marker = X
and = +
Lesser of pound = 16 (16 oz. in a lb.)

Put that together and you get:

2X+16=

I have no idea where that 24 of yours came from...

You said it was right back in post #8...

And to get what you said for two units of three, 'of' was probably the worst word you could have used... I mean, it's supposed to be a riddle, but thats just stupid...

No, I didn't.  But I concede that "of" might not have been the best choice of words, but it was all I could think of.

No, "Not quite all..." means you need to use the equation to decypher the number sequence now.

Just to remind you, this code is not a message.  It is a very special sequence of letters.  It's supposed to look like gibberish.

You have an extra letter in there, but close enough.

Now, two questions:

1.)  What is the significance of "Or you could ask Eta Onir" in the riddle?

2.)  That sequence of numbers is very special.  Why?
