Re: End of support for Windows XP Service Pack 1
Hasn't WGA been suppressed is a recent upgrade? On of the machines at work started complaining that it wasn't 'genuine' Windows a few weeks back (I'm guessing something's corrupted; we seem to get that a lot), then stopped after the latest updates.

Apart from that, I've never had any problems with SP2. In fact, it solved quite a few.

For those of you *****ing about the hardened TCP stack breaking stuff, that's the fault of the apps that use it. If they're relying on certain nonstandard behaviour that SP2 suppressed, they're badly written.

Exactly. I'm pretty strongly in the anti-MS camp really but I think it's pointless to whine about SP2 or about the lack of support for SP1.

If you don't want to upgrade and are happy with your OS the way it is why the **** do you care if they stop supporting you?

Because it's undoubtedly one of those cases that 'you don't want it until you've lost it'.

Seriously, I guaran-****ing-tee that my copy of XP will implode the day after support is pulled.

And? What will happen then?

MS will provide a patch for the problem which you'll refuse to install anyway.

I never said I didn't install patches. In fact, I try my best to keep up-to-date with patches and security updates. It's just that I shy-away from SP2 because i've heard it can adversely effect gaming, which is pretty much all I do on this damn thing.

Re: End of support for Windows XP Service Pack 1
the only problem with the genuine advantage is when i "purchased" a copy of windows XP SP1 off of soft4download.  I didnt know i was actualy buying a pirated program so i am still pretty pissed about it.  now this little icon always comes up saying that it wont get any updates until i install genuine software..

screw MS.

Where can i get this program to take all the genuine crap out?
Well what do I do now?  Well Jack, you seem to have an act for blowing things up....

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Yeah that hasn't worked for a long time now.
