Elementry school bans tag

Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable.

so?

this happens all the time

they banned kickball, and ultimately tag at my elementary school because it got out of hand and people started to get hurt. it really isnt that big of a deal. If the kids arent playing it safe, the staff has the authority to not let them play it at all.

Re: Elementry school bans tag
In 6th grade, I invented (I think I did at least :nervous: ) a game like tag called "the maker". In this game, one person in the beginning is it, and must grab the back of someone's neck (like you're choking them from behind) to tag them, and if you get tagged, you're it for the entire game. The game was quite popular and fun  . But guess what? NO INJURIES!!! Big shock there!! Even when this kid got pissed off because I tagged him in the first four seconds, NO INJURIES!!!! People are just paranoid idiots. I wonder why they haven't banned pencils yet.

The real threat at my school was the fact that our playground was a big parking lot with lots of dumpsters and potholes.

Im surprised they havent made the kids wear helmets walking down stairs yet.

Re: Elementry school bans tag
When you look at the outrageous things schools are held responsible for, it really isn't that surprising.

I wonder though: how long until recess gets replaced by... (du-du-du-duuuum) study hall!  :shaking:

At times like this, can I really be blamed for raging against the PC nanny-state liberal pussy soccer-mom society in which we live, as I'm inclined to do on occassion?

I don't really see why this **** gets associated with liberalism; everybody is buying into it.

one could almost say that the advent of nuclear power (or something else from the same time) has poisoned people in such a way that whenever anyone becomes a parent, they become a raving lunatic who only knows three sentences:

"Why aren't my children safer?"
"I'm gonna sue you!"
"Won't somebody think of the children!?!?!"

appologies to any parents on here, as you're obviously the exception to the above rule.

Banning it because things are getting out of hand is one thing, but banning it just because they are afraid of being sued is another.

Another Willett parent, Celeste D'Elia, said her son feels safer because of the rule. "I've witnessed enough near collisions," she said.

But the near collisions are the funnest parts, especially if you run towards the tagger him/herself and just barely evade him, I've learned most of my Running Away/Rincewind skills from tag.

What's wrong with near collisions? What's wrong with full on collisions? My friends and I all had our share of playground injuries and none of us are worse off for it. Cuts, bruises, and skinned knees are part of growing up. They toughen you up and give you experience the hard way.

Re: Elementry school bans tag
If Tag was ever banned at my elementary school, I totally would've gained 300lbs and then sued the school for not allowing proper exercise.
