Not as far as I know.

If you know a coder willing to help us port it to wxWidgets we'd happy to help them though :)

is it possible to run it via wine? ive installed the freespace data packages (including all updates up to 1.9c) and when i try to run Fred2.exe (or any other fred binaries) from my installation folder ($HOME/.wine/drive_c/Games/FreeSpace2) hes giving me:
Code: [Select]
Freespace2/Fred2 cannot be run from a drive root directory!
^^ can this be fixed?

You need to run it with the full Windows path, like this:  "wine C:\\Games\\FreeSpace2\\fred2.exe".  I've never actually tried running the retail version of FRED2 under Wine though.  I know that relatively recent FRED2_Open builds will work, except for a menu rendering bug which makes the menus/toolbar appear black until you click on them (no idea why, or how to fix this yet).

i made it work with win, but it suxx, menus arent displayed by default (u have to mouve the mouse over'em to make'em show up (but they will disappear when leaving the menu bar) and the buttons arent displayed at all - u have to click'em if u want em to lift their black disguise (bzt as the menu stuff they will disappear again when the button is left with mouse) ...

seems to be a sson end to me trying to map for freespace ...

:'(

Actually, now that you know what's wrong, you can fix it and send us a patch!  Then everybody can reap the benefits!!1 :D

The black menu thing is a Wine issue, so it's not something that we can really fix.  It's just how X deals with the GL context and the WM code in Wine.  Although I understand the problem well enough, it's just a bit over my head when it comes to fixing something like that. :)

I was using fred under wine last summer.

To get around the button issue in wine, i would just drag the toolbar out of it's docked position, and they showed up for me. This was a year ago, so i've no idea if it would still work.

Cheers!

just had a close look on the output of ./configure --help=short and the option --enable-wx2fred just jumped right into my eyes.
Am i wrong or is it the try of getting fred to work under linux using wx-widgets?

when i compiled it
Code: [Select]
./configure --enable-wx2fredit used to be a common freespace build ...

You're right about what it is. But it's nowhere near done and due to our lack of coders no one is working on it.
