I'm going to ingnore that ;)

Seriously though. if it happens, I'll judge it when I see it. For my part, I was really dissapointed in seeing Excalibur ended only a couple of series in. Iirc, the guy playing the Technomage was Edward Woodwards' son, (Big Ed did make an appearance in one episode, but despite the names, I've never heard the relation officially confirmed).

Excalibur was pretty good, but like all sci-fi programs, needed a couple of series to warm up. Most execs seem to forget that, in acting, feeling comfortable depicting yourself as a cannibalistic mass-murderer is a lot lot easier than feeling comfortable thinking of yourself as an Alien etc.

Edit : This is why things like 'X-Men' films always seem to have slightly 'self concious' acting, because people aren't just playing different roles, they are interacting with entirely different environments.

Arrgh.. That's the one, kept calling it Excalibur even when it was on. Excalibur was that dodgy movie with a Merlin who reminded me of a Technomage. :)

Crusade did indeed suck. Godawful music, a lead cast straight out of D&D, a ship on loan from Starblazers, and an excruciatingly hackneyed "Everyone on Earth will be die in... oh I dunno... EXACTLY FIVE YEARS" premise.

Lord of the Rangers, of course, had the Kung Fu Lasers. Und ze ship... eet eez haaauunnted.

you would have thought the same thing about B5 if your total exposure to it was the first seven eppisodes.

Actually, no, I was extremely impressed by The Gathering, and thought the first seven episodes of B5 were quite entertaining (though granted Infection was quite cheesy). And the premise was pretty original for a TV show.

Crusade was just cliched dreck. Technomages are seriously the dumbest idea JMS ever came up with.

I dunno, Decker.  If they gave Red Dwarf an actual "movie" budget, it just wouldn't be the same.  I mean, the vindaloo monster wouldn't be half as funny in CGI.

Agreed, much of the appeal was the BBC-style special effects. If a film was made of it, they'd try to make it too 'Hollywood', they'd replace everyone with people who look like really bad carbon copies of the crew, only younger, and they'd remodel all the ships. It just wouldn't be Red Dwarf any more.

You guys realise that they've been in the process of making a Red Dwarf film for a few years now, right?

Disturbingly, something like that was already done by the TV show itself. When the original Red Dwarf model was destroyed and they had to make a CGI replacement, I thought the new model was way too sleek and had little of the charm of the original gigantic bulky awkward ship.

Must admit, I gradually lost interest after they all ended up in Starbug, I think even Rob Llewellyn was getting bored with it by then, the jokes just stopped being as funny, or started making multiple appearances, which is a sure way to kill a funny gag. I think the last episode I really enjoyed watching was the one with the alternate universe crew, end of series 4 or 5 iirc.

The Lost in Starbug was season 5, I think. If I remember right it took about 5 years to go from season 5 to 6. And season 6 was basically wank. Season 5 did have some decent gags.

i prefer the original models to the later CGI too.

Season 6 was good. It was the first series where they were all alone in starbug and it featured a bunch of cool plotlines and some of the funniest lines in the show.

Rimmer : Step up to red alert!
Kryten : Are you sure? That will mean changing the bulb!

It was season 7 where it all went hideously wrong. They got rid of Rimmer, brought in Kochanski and turned Kryten into a whining little baby.
