"Just because you buy a DVD to watch at home doesn't give you the right to invite friends over to watch it too. That's a violation of copyright and denies us the revenue that would be generated from DVD sales to your friends," said Glickman. "Ideally we expect each viewer to have their own copy of the DVD, but we realize that isn't always feasible. The registration fee is a fair compromise.

Why not. They've got the ball well and truly rolling now. Why not see how far they can push it?
Be warned: This site's admins stole 100s of hours of my work. They will do it to you.

The scary thing is, I had no trouble believing it.  Er, until I read it again.

In my defense, I was getting ready for 5s. :)

In the future everyone will have a DRM chip embedded in their brain. If you so much as look at copyrighted material your brain will contact a media industry database and an appropriate sum will be deducted from your bank account. Should your bank account not hold sufficient funds the offending senses will be temporarily blocked to protect copyright holders from copyright infringement.

For some reason I'm reminded of the Syndicate Wars intro film. The civilians had chips in them...

The MPAA defines a home theater as any home with a television larger than 29" with stereo sound and at least two comfortable chairs, couch, or futon

how do you legally define "comfy" ?  :doubt:

Re: You cant watch TV at home, says MPAA!
I typically support the MPAA in most aspects, but even this is a step too far.

And yes, before you get me on it, I know it's a joke.  I never take anything slashdot has to say being worth beans unless there's a link involved.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

If they manage to turn this into a law, ten the US is truely doomed.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

This seems just waaaaay too far fetched...  This is probably an idiotic question, but are slashdot.com and BBspot.com legitimate news sites?  I'm having trouble believing this...

Bush (Verb) -- To do stupid things with confidence.

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

I would not put it past them either. Sounds typical of an American agency...living here, i know the type.

I thought this quote would be appropriate
