Howdy.  I've got the FS Open 3.6.9, and I'm on my second run through the main Freespace 2 campaign.  However, no matter what I do, when I get to Rebels and Renegades, I get the following error.  It's odd, because I KNOW I got that medal the first time through.

Error: Invalid medal name.

In sexpression: ( when
   ( is-goal-true-delay "Escape" 0 )
   ( grant-medal "SOC Unit Crest" )
)
(Error appears to be: SOC Unit Crest)

I've restarted the campaign, built a brand new pilot and ctrl+shift+s'ed to this mission, I've selected the port mod and played a couple missions and come back, etc...  To be honest, I have been able to play as one pilot throughout multiple campaigns and mods, but now it seems my game is borked.

Here's my history:
I went through the Freespace Port with no issues.  After completing that, I jumped around to a bunch a different mods and campaigns and missions trying to figure out which one to do next.  I finally just decided to do the Freespace 2 campaign.  I got to the Sicilian defense, but I couldn't select any bombs.  Kara was nice enough to send me a Freespace 2 campaign starting at that mission so I could complete the game.  I have since removed that campaign and tried to go through the original again, to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Secondly, to avoid this in the future, what should I do?  Should I make a new pilot for every single campaign?  Or is one pilot per mod the way to go?

Thanks.  Great game.  Great community.

Okay, I think I've got it.  It seems that I needed to RTFM for Renegade Resurgance.  Apparently, it doesn't play nice with FSOpen.  Sorry to bother you guys!

I dont see why you have to appologise, one of the reasons this forum is here is to help other people get their game working ;)

The other reason being to bicker about highly intellectual subjects like the colour of Boschs' underpants (my opinion; white then very very brown), or whether you can make a spaceship 100 times more powerful by removing the wee fighterbay hole in the side.

And RTFM is what now? :nervous:
To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

Erm...

Read the f**king manual? Thats what I mean when I say RTFM...

But the true order of getting a problem solved...

1) F**k around with the settings till you get another problem.
2) Ask people online about it, without a good explanation of what happened.
3) Annoy customer service
4) Hijack other threads to try to get an answer
5) F**k around more with the settings
6) Complain about the problem
7) Say you can solve the problem
8) Fail to solve the problem
9) RTFM
10) Solve the problem

Ah, delicious irony.  How I love thee. :p

Speaking of Rebels and Renegades...er, actually two levels after that, ...Hate the Treason, has anyone noticed that you can, at least on my machine, start picking off the other ships almost immediately with no ill effects, i.e. they don't start coming after you. I've done it a couple of times. Don't think it's a bug.

LOL sounds like how i was a long time ago before i went to the manual before, I seek answers in the manual before i get help now. Either that or ask friends.

Thanks for the responses, guys.  Any definitive thoughts on the pilot profiles?

FSO corrupts multiplayer pilots occasionally after a couple of missions of play without exiting the game, and then you cant use that pilot on retail anymore. Thats my only thought about profiles. However this problem may have been fixed since the last time I played multiplayer on FS2 Open so...

'Tisn't a bug, more like an undocumented cheat.  "No traitor" is specifically set in the Mission Specs editor.

I don't think that was added for that reason though. I think it was a side effect of turning the feature on so that if the player started shooting iota wing a little too early he wouldn't lose the mission due to being marked a traitor and have everyone start shooting at him.

I don't think they would have done the same thing if they had a SEXP to turn no Traitor on and off (Which does me wonder why they didn't have one. I'll have to look at the code but it might be as simple as setting a flag).

I suspect that it was turned on in ...but Hate The Traitor for much the same reason. In case the player started blasting away at the NTF when told to blow away the Elysium.

Ah, was wondering about that...like any cheat, it makes the level a little less fun, but as I continue on my goal to finish every level on Insane, it's a good crutch.
