Star trek legacy ship conversions
Is it possible? i think the ships are in a (waiting to find out) file, but i cant be too certain?

It would be lovely to fly around in FS2 with the defiant.  that and the Enterprise-E, Sovereign-class .

*edit* hmmm strange, seems there doesn't appear to be any model files, apart from dds files, altho my model making ability is limited, dds files belong to shader and bump mapping? (correct me if I'm wrong on this one)

ATM Legacy is import only (and the mod community had to jury rig a converter, it works 50% of the time)...

And quite frankly BC models are FAR superior. There may be certain exceptions as Richard Knox is one of the modelers...

I am on the pulse of Trek gaming so I'll let you know if anything comes of STL modding...


AND BTW, all those ships you named WERE released by Omniscaper (Search is your friend) ;)

thank you for that bit of info, TBH after i had posted i went and had a look into modeling ST legacy and couldn't find any viable model files

bah, i wish i could model, i just cant get my head around 3dstudio max, or any other modeling program, if i could id be working on my very own aliens drop ship, man what a missile boat that would be.

Can someone please help me out, iv downloaded all of omni's ships, and unpacked them into freespace2/mods/star trek

Yet I'm getting loads of errors to do with weapons.tbl, i cant get my head round the file, has anyone managed to get all these ships working ? if so would it be to much to ask for your weapons.tbl and to be on the safe side ship.tbl file as well please.

Ooh thank you,

I found that site yesterday, but then me electric went out whilst downloading them, and couldn't remember how I found it, thank you for that one, I almost figured out how to sort it all out, but there was one major problem after doing it all manually.

The ship.tbl pointed to a xwing.pof that I couldn't find, or edit out, no matter how much I tried (even renaming the .pof path with in the ship.tbl to point to a defiant class), still got a xwing.pof error?

strange, but simply copy a small model and rename it xwing.pof,  that should get you through for the time being...

Euuh, well, I don't know if I'm the good topic but I tried the Star Trek VP from the website you gave earlier. Ships are working fine but, strangely, the game crashed during combat. Do you know how to fix it ?

I want to try something but since the game crash with the latest 3.6.9 Build and the Launcher 5.5a.

there is no combat, it has 5 missions with the Vps that you can use to view the ships from a shuttle with, but if click the campaign room, you will notice that only the freespace2 one is available,

the problem is, the ships are there, but the missions and campaigns are not :( , ere metal if i find out how to use custom ships in the mission editor, ill have a go at making some missions with you, though I'm afraid for me its going to be a slow learning process :)

Omni merely converted ships and had 2-3 test missions. while he planned on doing something with them, he dropped interest in Trek in favor of BSG: BTRL. And personally I'm glad cause although I have over 10 times more content, his was superior to what I am able to accomplish.

Plus he was angling from the Cap POV while my effort is focused on the smaller craft Pilot's POV.

Cobra seems to have resurrected Omni's old effort (cap wise) but after 1 post seems to have stalled for the moment. ;)

While I have a basic outline for 4-5 eras of Trek, it's very RAW and at this stage I am focused primarily on conversions and then finalizing them. I decided long ago not to use FS2 placeholders so missions won't be planned for resources that currently don't exist.

As many fighters and caps now exist (as well as new animated weapons), I have started to re-examine that decision. No real missions exist for me also, as I constantly test new resources (just one guy with limited skills).
There is no download so pls don't ask!

If you just want ships for your PERSONAL use in FS2 you can go to FS2 Sector. Little Ludi converted 100-200 ships to .pof format and are mostly untested.

I initially used them in the mod and after posting screens almost got a C&D letter from the owners of BC2 (yes he BOUGHT a license from paramount!). Cause Ludi converted the USS Scorpion and I didn't know it was a original design slated for BC2!!! Damn guy has a shitty read me in every file that has like no info...

So they are fine for the privacy of your OWN computer, but they are off limits for a MOD Team understand? :D

Hope that helps a little, I need to stop posts here as I already have a TREK thread on HLP (you didn't use search like I suggest and I can't merge threads cause I am not a MOD here, just on GW Robotech section)...

I did use search, I always do :P

But as you have already agreed with me there are no combat missions, the search proved useless.
I have also searched and looked for away to use the star trek models in the FRED mission builder, but as yet my search has proved fruitless.

I can find loads of references pointing to how to build a mission, but as stated, its mainly to do with using stock free space 2 ships and classes :(

Even the help file that naturally comes with the mission builder doesn't have no mention of how to import or use custom NON-Free space 2 models to build missions with.

it might be just me, but everyone else seems to be "born" with the prior knowledge of how to do these things, an thus leaves me with feeling like i have to make a new thread and harass people for information that seems to be available from "somewhere" ?

This forum is a big and complex place with loads of posts dotted around every where, it might just be my search criteria that is not producing the results that I'm looking for, but honestly, how many more ways is there to search for "using custom models in FRED_OPEN / mission build" is there?

And as for using BC models, all I will be releasing if I ever manage to find out how, is a mission file that points to ST models, If that's how it works, then people can put in what ever ships they like, as long as they are named accordingly.

The trick is I made my own mission since there are no one. Well, just create a shortcut to your Fred2 Open, then go to his property and add the following command after the exe :

How do you have your directory structure, I have my mods in C:\Games\Freespace2\mods

So star trek is in C:\Games\Freespace2\mods\StarTrek

My Short cut target is this C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fred2_open_3_6_9.exe -fredhtl -jpgtga -mod StarTrek

Yet it still doesn't see it. even if I move the StarTrek folder to the main Freespace2 directory IE: C:\Games\FreeSpace2\StarTrek

It still doesnt show the ships :(

I don't know if it would work if you put that "-mod mod\StarTrek" instead of "-mod StarTrek".

Sorry I can't help you... I've tried to port what I have so far to 3.6.8 but something fundamental changed from when I started the mod in plain old 3.6

I just modify my defualt folders and it works like a dream, but then again even Karajorma can't believe I can make it work that way as it's - "against the laws of space-time", but hundreds of screenies don't lie.

Maybe you'll have more luck When/If Cobra finishes reworking Omni's ships for 3.6.9

I'll find some excuse to bump my old thread here... (oops, that was my inner voice).  :drevil:

Well, I also have tested the conversion from the unimatrix site. I had exchanged some emails with the author, but nothing really fancy. I started creating my own tables based on the statistics taken from the SF3 modification "Generations at War". If I remember correctly everything works even combat. But I haven't tested it with the new 3.6.9 version.

It's a bit strange that you have problems with Fred. I use the same layout as you, but I can use the ships. Hmm...
